    Ahem…

    About 10 years ago when I was regularly programming in Perl I was reading about Perl6 and trying to follow the development progress and such. Then I got bored, switched to Python and never heard of it again. The last thing I remember is that there was a prototype interpreter, Pugs, written in Haskell, there was some progress on the Parrot VM, but a production Perl6 was still very much vapourware.

    So is there a production ready perl6 and is anybody actually using it?

  • I don't think anything much has changed on that front. At this stage I'm treating perl6 as the new version of Duke Nukem Forever. We might get it, we might not. Either way it isn't worth worrying about until they actually get around to releasing it.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

    I've not heard of one, but I've not been listening out for one either. About the only thing I've been seeing people use perl6 for is code golf, but that's hardly production use…

    The more things change, the more they stay the same.

  • Is the second onion the one that goes in the varnish?

    Speak for yourself. My golf simulation is written in Perl 6 and it goes into production any day now.

    Filed under: $golf{golf}->%golf()
