Where is <s>Grumpy Cat</s>Fail Whale?
-
So I decided to make a Tweet referencing a horror movie, while at the same time poking fun of Twitter's fragility. Which isn't really fair, since Twitter has been rock solid as long as I've been using it.
"Hey, this tweet won't leak, will it?" Leak? HELL no! This tweet was made by the US Army Corp of Engineers *thump* *FZZZZZZZZZZ* OH FU--
And what happens?

So sorry I broke Twitter, everyone. And twitter is sorry for using white text on a light blue background (notsorry).

Wait, how did you get emphasis on the text entry?!?

noobs can't
triforceMarkdown quote

Wait a fuck-- Discourse stripped out the "sound effect" asterisks I had around thump and fzzzz... y'know what, fuck it, I've already filed two bugs today at meta.d

You still have an account? Duuuuuuude...
-
Treasure the fact you aren't banned. It seems to be a thing as of late...

Not a bug. It didn't strip them out, it turned them into formatting.
Asterisks are used for emphasis in the markdown. (Underscores too.)

***emphasis***
results in emphasisemphasis is a really weird word when you start looking at it.
(If you really want "sound effect" asterisks, you can escape them.
\*emphasis\*
results in *emphasis*.)

This is why I prefer BBCode. It might take a bit more work to use, but you'll never trigger it accidentally, unlike Markdown where you spend an inordinate amount of time trying to get it to simply post what you typed.

If I really want "sound effect" asterisks, I'll back and and all efforts to get sane forum software running here, rather than typing a single fucking backslash.

Translation: What we have sucks, we don't know how to fix it, when we'll fix it.
and****strong text even though I jizz in my own mouth for keyboard shortcuts, this absolutely basic one that every user who uses keyboard shortcuts knows won't be fixed.

I haven't seen that movie in many years. Note to self: Must find a copy.

I guess it's fixed now?

This is the number in a dozen.
Clearly you must be some kind of idiot for ever wanting a list to be numbered any way except monotonically-increasing-by-1 and starting at one.

Where is
contrast?Grumpy CatFail WhaleSeriously, am I the only one who had to squint to read that message?
-
It was fixed at the end of the thread I linked. But it was a bug in a fairly common feature whose explanation was literally almost unbelievable.
-
Didn't it regress and get "fixed" again?
Filed under: Regression testing catches another bug before it makes it to prod... Oh, wait...
