People who want to live in the past are shitty assholes

Seriously. Everything before about 1986 sucked shit, and it really didn't even start getting good until 2008 or so. And I mean everything.
My favorite bits:
If your dream is to live in an era in which white supremacy was scientifically entrenched, moreso than now, FUCK YOU
I buy a lot of Victorian era buttons to use with my knitting, because they are often prettier and hold up better than modern buttons.
Back to what I said earlier, though, I mostly own rich people buttons, and nice buttons aren't better than the right to vote.

You were born in the early eighties?
And I mean everything
-
I'm not sure what's going on at that link. I suspect they're all retarded.
-
I hope those fuckers get some ailment that is easily treatable today but would have a 99% mortality rate in the Victorian era. Let's just see how much they love the Victorian era then.
Wasn't it Louis CK that said something to the effect of: "Time travel would only be fun for white people"?

That's mentioned in the article YOU DIDN'T READ.

I also like this bit:
What you linked was not an article as best I could tell. It was just a string of tweets. That is not an article. Not by my definition.
I went to the actual article, at this link:
Which I found in the string of tweets you posted, but called an article.
-
Eh, whatever.
Wasn't it Louis CK that said something to the effect of: "Time travel would only be fun for white people"?
Could be. But I mean, lots of comedians say stupid things to get laughs.
The complaints all sound like people saying they don't want to go to an American college because they don't want to be raped.
I went to the actual article, at this link:

That's not an article. It's Vox.
-
That's not an article. It's Vox.
Well...it is closer to an article than a string of nonsensical tweets.
-
Here is a little gem from the
articlerubbish posted on Vox:The systems that dominate people's lives have become so opaque that few Americans have even the foggiest notion what makes most of the items they touch every day work — and trying to repair them would nullify the warranty.
If it is still under warranty, then have it replaced or repaired under warranty, you dingy bitch.
-
Wasn't it Louis CK that said something to the effect of: "Time travel would only be fun for white people"?
If he said that in a serious manner, that'd be a pretty dumbfuck thing to say to someone who lives where the majority isn't white. Oh yeah, a Chinese person wouldn't possibly want to have any reason ever to go back in time in China (any more or less than a white person would want to go back to Victorian England.)
Not realizing that is as big a bit of parochialism as it would be of racism.

Until Apple decides to do that, then they would be the ones who invented the phenomena.

No kidding. What sort of warranty wouldn't be voided by you actively doing stuff? Warranties aren't there to insure against your incompetence / malice.
-
Am surprised that there's no detail on frequency of beatings in this article. Also would really want to call out the writer for, well, having been writing, that is not at all period appropriate.
And, suck is still not confined to any historical period - it's remarkably evenly distributed, although yes, there is the occasional massive spike.
-

I do shit that voids the warranty all the time, but I realize the implications of doing so, and I don't bitch about it.
-

If that self-righteous bitch used anything but a quill pen and paper to write this article, she needs beaten (with a period appropriate club).

I think you need to grab your favorite blanket and lie down for a bit. You'll feel a lot better.

Couldn't she have used Charles Babbage's analytical engine?

That's probably a slight improvement over GG Allin.

Oh my g-d. "she needs to be beaten". Stop doing that, you heathen.
-
Remember back when we had good standups? Carlin, for of course instance. Except of course for everything he did before 1986 of course...

You need beaten. Heathen.
Irregardless of grammarical errors, you known what I meaned.

Stop that. slaps your wrist

"Time travel would only be fun for white people"
Should also say
men
, most women rights are new even in the first world.

The writer used a quill-and-pen to write the original article, of course. It was then typeset by child slave labour, and run through a massive printing press that isn't regulated by WSIB or the EPA. Three children were horribly mutilated during the printing process. Two more died trying to rescue them, and they got off light. The three injured children were fired (without wages, of course), so they look forward to a nice, short life full of zero employment opportunities, endless, crippling pain in their stumps, and eventually either freezing to death in the winter, dying of sepsis from infection, or being sold into child prostitution and murdered by an over-zealous john.
Their families, of course, will lose out on those kid's income, which means they'll forfeit on their home and end up in debitor's prison, where they will be repeatedly raped and beaten by guards until they eventually die of malnutrition and/or exposure.
At least it isn't as bad as their neighbous who, living beside the printing mill, get to enjoy the polluted water, constant flow of carcinogens in the air, and runoff/seepage that will leech mercury and other heavy metals into their food supply. They look forward to getting sick, coughing up blood, and eventually dying of brain lesions while their minds slowly rot away from the inside, robbing them of even the memories of happier times and loved ones.
But at least the writer has her buttons.
-
Both sides here are eyerollingly stupid.
But the stupid couple who likes Victorian clothes are at least not condescending about it. So I'm on their side here. Go silly people, and live your historic fantasy. Ignore this whiny bitch and her social justice crap.
-
Both sides here are eyerollingly stupid.
Moreover, this applies to all 10 sides of this issue.
-
Couldn't she have used Charles Babbage's analytical engine?
It wasn't finished then. In fact, it's not been built to this day. It's one of the world's older examples of vapourware. (Of course, this also means that if the article author had stuck to using one, the world would be a better place.)
-
Well then I suppose whatever server this discourse install runs on could have been used instead.
<ha ha get it really old
-
dingy bitch
Have you seen my dog? She does really need a bath. But how did you know?
-
That's about enough out of you for one night, you old bastard.
BTW, good luck on the recent job prospects.
-
Apropos of the topic title1, I would like to point out that, although toilet paper was invented in China centuries ago, it was not common in the west until relatively recently. The first commercial toilet paper in the US was produced in 1857. People who want to live in an era earlier than that might want to do so in China; otherwise, make do with leaves, grass, sand, corncobs, or bare hands.
1Since such things are prone to rapid change: "People who want to live in the past are shitty assholes"
-
you old bastard.
No, my parents had been married for about 20 months when I was born.
That's about enough out of you for one night
It is not yet night (where I am, which is all that matters; I care not for your time zone).
-
No, my parents had been married for about 20 months when I was born.
But how long had your mother and father been together?

BREAKING NEWS: person idealizes good things of the past and ignores the bad ones. Our entire news team is heading there to interview her.
But yes, the past sucked.
There's a really good write-up on that, but it's in Spanish. If you want to read the auto translated version:
https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A//lapizarradeyuri.blogspot.com.es/2010/03/el-pasado-era-una-mierda.htmlI translated a paragraph:
But if you had told any parent from 300,000 BC, 30,000 BC, 3,000 BC, 300 BC, 300 AD, and even from 1900 AD, that the time would come when he would be able to take his sick son to a hospital with scientific tools, antibiotics, CAT scans, analgesics, and everything, and that then he would be able to bring him back home, cured, to take a bath with warm water they would get from the tap at a ridiculous cost - yes, ridiculous: wood and coal used to cost the salary of a month - and then he could sleep in a bed without lice, bedbugs or fleas, and have all kinds of food and water that don't make him more sick... if he could have imagined that, he would have thought this was the paradise the benevolent gods promised in their prophecies.
And unless things go tremendously wrong, it's almost certain that the present will suck compared to the future.
And even if they do go wrong and there's a nuclear winter that kills 99% of the population, rebuilding civilization to the current point is just a matter of centuries as long as enough books and a few thousand people survive.
And even if we do lose all books and scientific knowledge, it just means it will take longer. We've gone from discovering stone tools to making Airbus A380s in mere thousands of years, we can do it again.
-

We're also building Dreamliners, which are much better because they come from Boeing.

Most dogs are in the near-perpetual condition of really needing a bath, so as guesses go that's a pretty good one.

The main worry would be whether there would be easily available compact fuel sources like coal and oil. They were critical in bootstrapping modern civilisation. The problem? Large reserves that are easily extractable with pre-industrial technology have been consumed, which makes it much more difficult to reach the reserves we're currently using…
It's not an insurmountable problem, but it's definitely a real issue.
