New site icon
-
I can only assume the site icon change came about due to the latest upgrade.
For the record I liked the old version better, but I accept this is the site's logo and identity.
May be it will just take me some time getting used to.
-
Nothing was deliberately changed by me....
-
Hard refresh still shows the 'old' one for me?
-
When in doubt, blame Discourse that it took the site logo and disconjured its own new favicon from that.
@loopback0 What do you get if you go to https://what.thedailywtf.com/favicon.ico ?
-
Ok, so comparing the source in the old tab and the new I see this new thing:
<link rel="icon" sizes="144x144" href="//what.thedailywtf.com/uploads/default/72/293cb41e2564427a.png">
This seems to be picked up by Firefox but not by Chrome, which is still using:
<link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="//what.thedailywtf.com/uploads/default/3/b22d0889376957fa.ico">
These don't match.
-
Btw, there's also this (which was in the old tab already):
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" type="image/png" href="//what.thedailywtf.com/uploads/default/72/293cb41e2564427a.png">
This is also the not the .

I don't really care if the icon changes, but I did think the lines need to be emboldened a little bit if this new icon was here to stay.
Nothing was deliberately changed by me....
So... it might get changed back?

So... it might get changed back?
As with others, I still have the
?!
in my tabs (Linux, Chrome 40.numbers.)
-
I've always had trouble getting Chrome to update favicons. Barring a complete uninstall and reinstall it would always use the same favicon it cached months ago until it felt like updating it, if ever.
-
Did the Reply buttons become white? Why?? :hands_to_the_sky:
-
I'm using Firefox and seeing the icon, except 16x16. It looks like this:

Nothing useful. Shows a white something on a white background in both IE11 and Chrome.
Actually viewing the site in either of them show the ?! icon.

Neither of these have changed recently, so FF now picking up the former rather than the latter is probably a buggette.
-
Like I said, perhaps not very clearly, there is a new tag in the <head> which reads:
<link rel="icon" sizes="144x144" href="//what.thedailywtf.com/uploads/default/72/293cb41e2564427a.png">
which the same URL as in the
rel="apple-touch-icon"
but not in therel="icon"
(nosizes
attribute).
-
I see it in the code too... although I do wonder why Firefox is trying to use it... does Firefox not understand the size= attribute so is trying to use it as the icon anyway?
-
Pfft... Icons:
-
Wow, it must have picked it up from the dumpster behind the DO data centre, because that's the pre-new-site WTF guy. And I think he was the favicon at some point in the past.
-
Convert the desired favicon to a png at least 64x64, but 144x144 would be nice, and put it in both fields.
-
Chrome Mobile is showing the favicon as the old now for me.
