  • I get it. The WTF is that there aren't 15 months in a year!

  • TRWTF is legit emails of payment 'reminders'

    I had one company sending me emails for two weeks, with just "You need to pay X to account Y". And then after 2 weeks all of a sudden they called me, I was like "WTF, that wasn't just spam?". In the end it turned out they where hired by another company that I had a bill with (which I already payed). But I still think it's a huge WTF to only send emails. Guess most people are more stupid then I guessed. Oh, and they accepted an screenshot of my internet banking as proof of payment (how easy to forge is that!)

    TRWTF is the American notation for dates.

    Welcome to the ignore list, fuckwad.

  • Personally I prefer YYYY-MM-DD (or just YYYYMMDD).  It has the bonus side effect of proper sorting lexographically, quite useful when looking at directory listings of (log)files with dates for names.

    I agree entirely with this statement.

    This is the only instance in which I prefer that.  Normally, I like the unambiguous "25 Nov 2009" which would be "Nov 25 2009" if switched.  Still unambiguous.

    Of course, TRWTF is thinking that TRWTF is America's date notation or Europe's date notation or Galactic Starfleet's date notation.  Take it easy.  If you prefer one, it's because you grew up with it and it makes the most sense to you and doesn't make you smarter or dumber.

  •  You are all wrong! The One True Date Format™ is by expressing the unix timestamp in base-36!

    Posted at T4FLM26.

  • php > echo date('c', base_convert('T4FLM26', 36, 10));
    3978-11-25T06:10:54-08:00

    php > echo strtoupper(base_convert(time(), 10, 36));
    KTOPHN

    hahahaha

  • Whoops sorry, mine was not the unix timestamp, it's seconds since 0001-01-01T00:00:00Z, counting years as 365 or 366 days of exactly 86,400 seconds (3978 - 1969 = 2009). In JPSoft function language:

    > function secstamp=`%@convert[10,36,%@eval[((%_year-1)*365+(%_year-1)\4-(%_year-1)\100+(%_year-1)\400+(%_doy-1))*86400+%_hour*3600+%_minute*60+%_second]]`

     > echo %@secstamp[ ]
    T4FLUT9

  • Well I think we've found TRWTF.

    They couldn't possibly let you see those details!  You're a hacker and ex-con(), you could end up stealing someone's identity or something - why do you think they won't even let you know any more than the last four digits of your own CC#?  If you knew all 16 digits, who knows what might happen!

    () - I see that this is in fact no longer the case since a couple of years ago; congratulations on fighting city hall and winning, your expungement was well deserved :-)

    First part of the number is actually, the BIN (6-8 digits IIRC), there aren't that many of them, all card numbers pass mod10 and some cards have lengths other than 16 (I've seen test cards with 10 and 19).

  •  American Express cards have 15 digits...

    Grew up in Belgium (using DD-MM-YYYY) but I still think it's retarded and I prefer YYYY-MM-DD, it's like putting a SELECT before a FROM.

    Agreed.  YYYY-MM-DD is clearly best.  The others are sub-optimal, but they can get the job done.  People who are self-righteous over regional standards, formats and measurements are TRWTF.
