Sonic characters can breathe through their ears

Well, Amy and Tails can at least.
Proof:
I waited for some time; they didn't drown.
Just one of many issues with Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.

She's breathing through her eyes, no?

I'll admit, I'm no expert in the anatomy of anthropomorphic hedgehogs and foxes, but something about that suggestion just doesn't seem to work...

I just thought that the pedantic dickweedery about fictional topics was reserved for the Article category.

I own Sonic 2006 for Xbox 360. Your bug is weaksauce.

I own Sonic 06 for PS3; that version is generally seen as even buggier than the 360 version.

Mario can breathe through his feet, at least in 64.
It's just standard video game logic.

This does not work - at least for Sonic - in Sonic 4 Episode 2:
-
Sonic 4 for PC is written in Java. Just in case someone wants to keep track of how shitty Sega is at everything recently.
Actually, they just have some teams that are really shitty. There's no way the same people who developed the excellent Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racer would then decide to use Java for their next game. It would be nice if their management would set some minimum quality level, though.

-
No clue. I mean it runs on Xbox and shit so either it's a port from some Android version, or they did a lot of stupid, unnecessary work to make the product shittier. Probably the latter.

teams
Yeah, Sonic 4 Episode 1&2 were mostly made by Dimps, the ones who make the handheld Sonic games. Not by the people who made Generations.
Oh, and All-Stars-Racing? It's made by these guys: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumo_Digital

To be fair, I think blakey already knows that; that's kinda his part of his point

Probably the latter.
Why would they do... oh wait... it's Sega.
This is the company that had two isolated teams develop two versions of their final console instead of having them work together and not waste half of their effort. The more I learn about Sega's history, the more amazed I am that they survived in the hardware market as long as they did

...there was only one version of the Dreamcast. You must be thinking of the 32X and Saturn, which were two fundamentally different consoles.
-
Only one was released but there was an internal competition.
Two rival R&D teams competed against each other to design a machine capable of placing Sega ahead of its rivals, one based in America and one based in Japan. This unusual gestation period came about when the newly appointed Sega of Japan president Shoichiro Irimajiri enlisted the services of Tatsuo Yamamoto from IBM to work on a design in the United States. However, when Hideki Sato, head of hardware development at Sega of Japan, caught wind of the plan he instructed his own team to produce a design for a new console, challenging his boss to choose whichever console came out stronger.

That doesn't seem like such a bad idea to me though, given how many people Sega would have had working for them at the time. Though it does strike me as pure petulance on the part of Hideki Sato. Then again, it seems Sato's team were the ones with the better design, so I guess the right man won in the end.

Hmmn, the fact that an ex-blueshirt was involved may have had something to do with it. IBM in the mainframe days was notorious for that sort of approach.
OTOH, when Apple tried that, they ended up with the Apple ///, the Lisa, and the Macintosh. The one which no one thought would go anywhere? The Mac. Figures.
(OK, so the original Macintosh was a very different concept, a cheap and simple text-only 'information appliance' closer to what later be the Canon Cat, and only became a scaled-down Lisa later after Jobs got an Idea. Still, that was basically the same sort of shotgun approach to computer design, and people noticed.)
While that sort of internal competition is actually pretty common, it usually is only taken to the mock-up stage before a decision is made. The fact that this came out of political maneuvering by rival suits rather than a deliberate contest is TRWTF.
