Someone who REALLY hates Oracle (in a totally psychotic Randroid way)

  • Yep, because a successful company run by a clever-if-rather-obnoxious CEO is totally the epitome of communism.

  • People post stupid incoherent garbage at publicly accessible forums. News at eleven...

He's been on comp.lang.* for a long time. He's basically their version of Nagesh.

Oh! Other people have gavino too? He's almost as mad as swampy…

Truth. He is much reviled for his habit of demanding information about how to do something in whatever language he is dabbling this week, then refusing to take that information to heart but instead asking others to do what he wants done for him. He then repeats this in another language, going through a cycle until he eventually comes back to the first group and asks the same questions all over again, while insisting that he isn't repeating himself and tossing out complete non-sequiturs about his misinterpretation of Objectivist philosophy. Anyone who calls him out on this is, of course, a 'commy' who knows nothing about real world economics (regardless of what the actual topic of discussion was) and is trying to oppress him. Throw in a few random misspelled insults, and a few screeds about how much smarter he than all these edumacatinded fools, and there you have it in a nutshell.

And, oh yes, he is a Marketing Consultant (and if you believe that...) and thus knows more about everything than you do, and still has time to spam dozens of newsgroups on an erratic basis. Right...

You think Marketing Consultants actually spend time doing work? 😆

So, he's friend Computer from Paranoia?

It's entirely possible. Either that, or an elizabot hooked to a copy of Atlas Shrugged.

He's in my personal list of people to never interact with on the grounds that he's actively madder than a bucket full of squirrels on psilocybins.

TIL. Never had the patience to keep trying long enough to find that out. 😃

    communism

That word seems to be used (here and by this guy as all over the world by the majority of people that know that word) as a mere synonym of "evil", similar to "Nazi", which few people still associate with a form of socialism that has the fault of counting only pure-bred as human. (Ok, then National Socialism fell into the very common trap of becoming a religion.)

  • Karl Marx probably was rolling over in his grave at a high rate at what Stalin was up to...

You don't get many old school kooks these days. Maybe they're all still on whatever usenet's become...Like this guy.

Agreed. AFAIK, Stalin wasn't the one that turned communism into an established religion (in the sense of "I wouldn't consider a religion established before the first heretic was burnt at the stake, crucified, buried alive, or tortured to death another way." (or similar)), though.

Well, whoever did do that had Marx rolling over in his grave as well, IMO.

(My take on communism is that it's merely utterly impractical to implement for groups larger than the Dunbar number because of how our R-complexes are programmed; it isn't sharing the "always eeeevil" boat with Asmodeus though.)

  • If you grew up in the US at a certain time, you spent your entire childhood believing "Communism" was this horrible force that was going to end the world, then, as soon as you came of age to begin having critical thinking skills, you learned "Communism" was this failed economic system that couldn't even provide its citizens with dishwashers, and the only reason we ever believed otherwise was propaganda smoke and mirrors. (The only "successful" Communist nation, China, is only successful because they aren't Communist anymore. CINOs.)

Anyway, in college, my buddies and I used to use "Communist!" as a generic funny insult for things. Or the even funnier version, "Commie!"

  • The Paranoia tabletop RPG I mentioned earlier plays this up for laughs.

The Computer runs the city that serves as the main setting for the game. At some point before the actual game setting, the world it lost all contact with the outside world. Naturally, after searching the historical databases, the computer concluded that the Commies must have attacked with nuclear weapons.

Needless to say, said computer has a healthy distrust of secret societies (especially Communists) and mutants.

Players are employed as troubleshooters by the Computer. Players are actually a set of 6 clones, one of which is active at a time. All of them are a member of a secret society and are mutants.

While the "goal" of the game is to complete missions assigned to you by the computer, the real goal is to kill the other players while making it look like you're not trying to do that.

P.S. Be careful what you say in the game. Since your characters have never been outside before, knowing what a "tree" is means you're probably a Commie traitor and should be shot... or at least that's what the other players would claim.

  • Yes blah blah blah I know all about Paranoia.

  • And how would you know about Paranioia? Friend Computer certainly didn't tell you about that.

If you have learned about Paranoia, please report to Friend Computer for reassignment, as it is clear to Friend Computer that you have been in contact with the outside world, which does not exist.

Failure to report for reassignment is treason. Treason is punishable by death.

  • Unacceptable.

    The answer does not program.

believing "Communism" was this horrible force

That's very similar to what we were tought over here in Western Germany.

It might be interesting that this was one of the few things that were same before and after 1945.

Luckily, my parents didn't join the communist bashing, but had a nuanced view, and could justify why they were against communism, as it was manifest in Eastern Europe. But that was an exception. Many people from my generation found out that the authorities lied in some aspects about communism (and about other things) and concluded that therefore, a) the authorities were completely wrong, b) the communists were completely right. This is the Either-Or Fallacy ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_dilemma ), which by the way very much helped someone to seize the power in Germany in 1933.
