The best wooden table yet.

  • I just received some specs from a customer for an accounts integration with QuickBooks, a popular online and offline accounting system. Here's what I believe the conversation looked like at the customer:

Random IT bod #1: "Hey, we need to send them some specs. Can you just send them the QB Integration Guide they have online?"
Random IT slave:  "Yeah, sure. Um... how do I do that?"
RITB1: "Oh, just go to their site, follow all the links, get screenshots."
RITS: "How do I do that?"
RITB1: "Ok, you click on the link, yeah?"
    RITS: "Uh-huh"
RITB1: "And then you print that page out, right?"
    RITS: "Right"
RITB1: "You scan it in... make sure it's straight, ok?"
    RITS: "Yeah, sure"
RITB1: "And then that HP thing just turns it into a PDF"
    RITS: "Right. Ok"
RITB1: "Just check that everything's there, and keep the paper straight on the scanner, yeah?"
RITS: "Yeah, yeah, yeah... I'm not an idiot, you know"

So another PDF full of wonky scans of printed out webpages. Better still, some pages must've been just too long and have come out empty with just a "page 2 of 2" sitting in the corner. But my personal favourites are three pages which look like this:

[External Link because it's a big image]

  • Oh...my...God. And still he wasn't even able to keep the paper straight on the scanner.

  • Perfect! A slightly skewed, B&W Internet Explorer error message inside a PDF, with a "page 1 of 1" in the top corner - can it get any better?

  • Oh.  Wow.

    Best. Specs. Ever

  • TRWTF is that it appears you have your phone number (or someone else's who will be similarly pissed) in that photo album. You should probably censor that image.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

The only phone number I can see in there is one that's trying to belong to the class described in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/555_(telephone_number) (the postfix of 1234 in the screenshot, while not actually part of that class, looks suspiciously made up, even though it's non-standard for a the type of 555 number described.)

Edit: The number in fact appears to be registered to Charles Slavin  (http://www.nanpa.com/nas/public/form555MasterReport.do?method=display555MasterReport)

Eitherway, it's elsewhere in the public domain, and not going to piss anyone off.

Ah, yes, that's the screenshot for a Smartphone skin. The data in that is what Microsoft's skin editor puts in by default, to give you an idea what your windows mobile home screen will look like with data in.

Is there a reason you couldn't have used names that didn't have the same first three letters? Maybe B1 and S, perhaps?

Yes, I wanted to confuse you.

That's fine, just wanted to inform you, One can never be sure...

Actually I think it's much more likely to be a date in seconds past the Unix epoch...

    $ perl -e 'print scalar(gmtime(1193077713));'
    Mon Oct 22 18:28:33 2007

(Okay, I just realised what was meant - that there was *another* picture in that album showing a number. My mistake, sorry.)

Well, an area code can't start with a "1"...that should be a clue.
