One of these days I'm going to take that animation and try to trace where all the balls go.

You may want to try one of the simpler ones first..

  • 🚽 Regular

I was trying to follow one of them by sight in this page:

http://blueballfixed.ytmnd.com/ (the music is a nice improvement).

They seem to really like going through this machine:

At some point my eyes gave up on me.

  • 🚽 Regular

I just found out Ctrl+I in Firefox no longer opens the page information.

Instead it opens the sidebar with bookmarks (Ctrl+B still does as well).

    :wtf:

    1. Each discrete animation is a 16 x 16 grid, where each grid square is
    8 x 8 pixels
    2. Each "ball" is nominally a 6 x 6 pixel unaliased sphere
    3. There are 3 "inputs" and 3 "outputs" in each animation
    4. Each output aligns with an input of the adjacent animation - X or Y Plane
    5. A ball at an output will appear at least one frame before a ball appears at the corresponding input
    6. The ball at the output will "disappear" when the ball at the input appears, thus giving the illusion of moving from one animation to the next
    7. Regardless of what each ball appears to do within any single animation, all animations emit and receive balls at the same time.
    8. There are 30 frames

    Thank you for your analysis.

Although it doesn't answer my main unwritten question: does every ball go through all the machines in one continuous path or are there separate paths that don't intermingle?

There's a ball in this machine that seems to be going around and around, but it could be that it's having an elastic collision with the ball entering from the left:

This machine seems to be in its own cycle of creation and destruction (ok, not really. Half the balls are escaping through the right):

Same GIF, but with voice commentary. Somewhat humorous.

  • These machines (from @PJH's "simpler" selection) have slightly different rules.

1st Sample: Yes, although there are actually two going round the loop and their sole purpose is to "assist" the ball entering from the upper left to leave by the lower left. Also, there is no capacity for this animation to receive from the top right, or deliver via the upper right. Its deployment in the full "system" would seem to verify this.

2nd Sample: The green beams seem to function as "matter transporters". The ball that is "destroyed" by the red laser is the last process effected on any ball within this animation and it is a ball created by this animation. More subtly: The ball entering top right is ejected upper right - it is not involved. In a similar way, balls entering lower right are ejected bottom right. No balls seem to be received or ejected on the left.

:hanzo: Edit: The individual animations with these rules seems to be more dependant on their "neighbours" or, rather, less able to be freely moved about, @PJH It would be interesting to know if there is an interactive constructor for these?
