Forums busted

  • The forums are broken.

    forums.thedailywtf.com redirects to forums.worsethanfailure.com which doesn't resolve.

I've only got here by adding that name to my 'hosts' file

Alex - can you fix it in a spare minute?

  • ♿ (Parody)

Hmm, surprised this is still an issue.

Can anyone else confirm? Ther ewere a few DNS problems yesterday, which i thought I fixed.

(forums will be moved to TDWTF domain soon, btw)

  • Had the same problem yesterday. Today, the forums still redirect to forums.worsethanfailure.com but the domain works now. There was also an infinite loop yesterday, where www.worsethanfailure.com redirected to itself. But that seems fixed now.

  • A bit more info from me (BTW - people having the problem won't be able to answer you...)

www.dnsstuff.com's DNS lookup can find 'forums.worsethanfailure.com' but our DNS server here can't. I guess it's the negative TTL which is causing the problem (it seems to be set to 1 day)

So, the DNS is fixed, but people will still be having problems until the negative TTL expires.

  • Here it is also still broken. In the replies on the frontpage someone told what to put in your hosts file to get here.

What does that negative TTL stuff mean? Will it take (at least) one day until all DNS serves can find it again or -1 days (meaning forever) because Alex or someone else messed up a setting?

  • Broken here too. Doing the hosts file trick.

The negative TTL means that your DNS server remembers 'negative' results (eg 'name not found') for 1 day. So a day after your DNS server first had a problem finding 'forums.worsethanfailure.com' it should be working again.

We'll just have to wait and see.

  • Looks like it's back up now :)

I can't do the hosts file trick, my ISP uses a transparent proxy. So, I set the IP in the hosts file, but then get an error from my ISP's proxy saying it can't find the domain. :(

  • I'm currently on forums.thedailywtf.com

I had to log in again.
