Surveys - how I wish...

Our kids' school has decided to do a survey for parents. How I wish that people would test their surveys before they publish them.

Here's a page from it:

Q6 - For a question "Do you visit the XXX school website?" you'd expect a checkbox or a pair of 'yes'|'no' radio buttons.

No, that would be too easy. They have two text boxes which can take two characters. I HAD to fill them in, so first I put '??' in 'Yes'.

No, that's not allowed, I get the error "?? is not a number"

OK then, let's try '42' (2 digits are allowed, so why not?)

Nope, not that either - 'Data is not in the range [1 : 2]'

OK then '2' (WTF does '1' mean and WTF does '2' mean? - 0-1 I could guess at, but '1 - 2'??)

Still not right - 'Data not in a proper order'

WTF??!??!!!

I guess I have to type '1' in one box, and '2' in the other - but is '1' the most important, or is '2' - there are logical reasons for either.

This is a survey asking (among other things) how good the school's communication is...

The questions are numbered 6, 6, and 8.

Obviously, question 7 decided to disguise itself as a 6, due to 6's well known phobia of 7.

I am guessing this is a WYSIWYG side effect. The survey was probably "drawn" using a FrontPage-ish tool (possibly even FrontPage). The very very non-web-savvy, non-technical author wanted to create checkboxes but didn't know how, so he/she "drew" some boxes that ended up looking kind of like checkboxes.

Even weirder is that later they prove that they know that radio buttons exist...

I had something similar once, although it wasn't as bad... "Yes" and "No" were both checkboxes rather than radio buttons (or a single checkbox). I ticked both, just for the fun of it.
