Europe is spreading
-
According to Olympus' homepage Europe is getting a lot bigger. Hint: Move mouse over "Europe", or on the map.
-
And you thought that the EU was just trying to control Microsoft!
-
My god, the motherland has been invaded! RUSSIANS, TO BATTLE!
-
Kirov reporting! For mother Russia! For our country!

The Real WTF is that they require Flash.
Na, seriously: Seeing russia as part of Europe is a bit controversial, but seeing it as part of asia would be even worse.

What??? Russia is a part of Asia. I don't see the problem.
I didn't know that Greenland is one of "Americas" though :)

And population-wise it is even worse:
"According to the 2002 Russian Census, Russia had 145,166,731 inhabitants, including 106,003,702 in the four European federal districts, and 39,129,729 in the three Asian federal districts."

This is likely intentional. It would be impractical for their actual business to consider Russia as split between their Europe and Asia divisions, it has to be one of them, and Europe makes more sense. It looks a bit surprising on the map, but it's the most sensible way to do it.
I'm more surprised that Turkey is included in 'Europe'. It's mostly in Asia, and despite its recent efforts to join the EU is culturally closer to the Middle East, with a mainly Muslim population. Istanbul, is however the world's only transcontinental city, straddling the Bosphorus strait.

Surely Turkey, Isreal, Jordan, etc. are not in Europe...

Oh, you meant physically, not politically...
-
Who said it is the different continents? It is just thier regions. That just happens to be named in a way that is very similar to the one people use.

You obviously haven't seen EuroVision.
-
In Soviet Russia, Europe is a part of YOU!
-
At my old job (at Symantec), we generally used EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Asia), which included Russia. I guess, like somebody else said, it was done for simplicity. All I know is when I see somebody with a Russian accent, I don't say he's Asian. :)
-
Well, theres a nice term "Eurasia" for the continent that would be more fitting...
-
Except for the Arabian Peninsula, which makes much of the 'Middle East', not being part of Eurasia. And Egypt has cultural ties to the Middle East, despite being geographically primarily in Africa.
