What's the price of a free email account?

  • Seen lurking in Google adwords:

    MS Outlook-based Email
Free Outlook & Outlook Web Access Premium business email - £9.99/mth
    www.Fasthosts.co.uk

  • The price of free email: Having to be phortuitous_phil792@hotmail.com, and being constantly caught in a monsoon of spam.

    Better now?

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

Fasthosts? The twats responsible for http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/11/30/fasthost_hack_update/ ? You couldn't pay me to use them.

(I'm assuming that's the WTF you're trying to point out, not the [free outlook] & [premium for £9.99/mth] which could (at a stretch) be interpreted as [free outlook & premium] for £9.99/mth)

  • Also, I believe you have to sign up for the 'enterprise' package or something to get even one MySQL database ... at least that's what the advert said.

Ahem.... I'm not a google fanboy or anything, but I switched my primary email address over to gmail recently, and I was able to get something more like FirstLast@gmail.com -- and an excellent spam filter.  And IMAP, and > 5 gigs storage.  It's free, and miles better than the comcast email I'm paying for .

Agreed. The IMAP functionality is great and the spam filter learns quick. I think I've had one or two mails slip past it in the 1+ year that I've had it.. compared to 50+/day being caught correctly.

I'll say it again: if you have any creativity at all, you can make a unique email address. (And forum username, etc.)
