Ordering on the Sidebar

  • I don't know if this has already been posted; sorry if it is.

Anyway, I love reading the sidebar stuff, but I only get around to it once or twice a week. If more than 5 have been posted, then they are overflowed off the main page. If I go to the forum to view them, they're in order of the most recent reply, not the most recent post, so the more popular ones that I've already read end up above the less popular new ones, and there's a good chance I'll miss them.

I'd be much happier (not sure about others, not that they matter :D), if either the forum ordered the posts in order of when they were posted (not when they were replied to), or if the sidebar on the right contained more posts (like the most recent 10, or maybe a user preference so I can set it to show me the last 100).

I probably should have put this in my user survey but I was too busy laughing at "leave this blank" to think clearly. :)

  • Crap, I posted this on the wrong board. Can somebody move it to "general discussion"? :(

  • Personally I use this url: http://forums.worsethanfailure.com/forums/TopicsNotRead.aspx. I've got 700 posts to go before I've read them all, would've been nice if there was an easier way of clearing it than reading 3000+ posts though.

I find that this my desired behaviour: updated bump to the top. I don't have a problem with missing the newer threads, because I generally scan them all, and upon returning to the list, the visited ones are a lighter blue.

But there is also a big button "More Options" down below, where you may personalise to your heart's content.

Yeah, that's understandable, some people would like that behaviour, especially if you actually read every thread. I don't have time to read every comment, though, and the different icon for unvisited ones doesn't always work (at least, not for me). I'd prefer if the behaviour was configurable, though, for the way I use it. That's why having more than 5 on the main pages would probably work for me.

I'll check out the configuration options and see if there's anything to make my life better.:)

I know, but I don't look at the icons anyway. There's a style for a:visited which is far more reliable.

Haha, good point (especially since this thread currently has the "unviewed!" icon for me). Problem is, I read from different computers depending on whether I'm at home or at work. :(
