Let's upgrade ember!

What could possibly go wrong?

@cartman82, please call your office.
OK, technically, he's not really advocating that, just asking.

So in conjunction with these tid bits I wanted to bring a question to the Discourse team. Given that there is a new release of Ember every six weeks and the fact that Discourse is also updating at an extremely rapid rate, is it in the plans to keep 1.11.3 for a while until 2.x irons itself out? Or will you be updating incrementally toward 1.13 before you jump into 2.x? From reading other topics it was a mere 2 months ago Discourse moved to version 1.11 so even though I feel bad jumping the gun and "asking" -- not intending to push -- I feel it is relevant.
Smart guy. I also decided to take a breather at 1.11. You can technically push forward, but at some point, you are no longer "updating" as much as "rewriting everything from scratch to follow this year's ortodoxy". I have a feeling a lot of people will decide 1.11 is good enough for now.
And yes, I did say the guy was smart because he agrees with me. That's the gold standard.
-
Nothing! Upgrading Ember.JS solves all of Discourse's problems, as we've been told several times in the past!
-
For a second there, I thought Ember was the one where even its own (Google employed?) developers basically said 1.x was trash.
Whoops, turns out that's AngularJS, not EmberJS.
-
Speaking of ember things, this was linked from that emberjs update topic somewhere; maybe the suggested topics. Did someone here plant a 2 year land mine on meta.d waiting for jeff to step on it??

That last line in the OP's response to jeff is classic, especially if it wasnt coming from a tdwtfer

Nice find.

Apropos of not a lot, spot the

See, that's why you shouldn't have round avatars.
-
One
like
is insufficient...
-
So how does that happen?
-
my guess, EXIF rotation data.
the shrinky to 45px size step probably discards it without correcting the rotation natively
-
So how does that happen?
As @Zecc mentioned - it's if your monitor isn't exactly level and you're not using square avatars...
-
But square avatars can fall down square holes and insure someone. At least that's what Microsoft HRs say...
-
-
-
And I bet they don't cover manhole-related injuries either!
-
But square avatars can fall down square holes and insure someone.
Let's hope that's covered by their personal accident injurance policy.

Discourse doesn't have square holes. They're either missing when they should be there, or pentagonal, and there, when they shouldn't.
Team Discourse have yet to decide on the colour of the holes however....
... and insure someone.
... what everyone else has already said
-

I think they're still debating whether to call them holes, passages or open spaces.

.. and whether to prefix it with
star
?
-
At least they filled all the star-holes.

Holes are black by definition. Although there may be light coming through from the other side.

Although there may be light coming through from the other side.
unless of course the light is actually being emitted by an oncoming train
-
unless of course the light is actually being emitted by an oncoming train
Then what? The light bends around the hole and sneaks up behind you? The light still comes from inside the hole doesn't it? It doesn't matter what the light source is and if it is static, moving towards or away from the observer.
-
well it matters because in one case you walk out of the tunnel and the other case you get turned into soup.
-
how do you know it is a soup train? There is no way of knowing that!
-
you become soup regardless of the type of train.
that's the law of relative mass and velocity.
-
you become soup regardless of the type of train.
Many train tunnels have wall niches to prevent just such an occurrence.

I find that "when in danger/or in doubt/run in circles/scream and shout" is a to not being

Why is there a deer in the tunnel ?
-
It's metaphorical.

It's metaphorical.
So there is a metaphorical deer in our metaphorical train tunnel that started as a metaphorical hole ... we might be overthinking this

They are really pretty dumb.

What color is the train shed?

I think mauve has the most RAM.

Hm, good, but the JPEG quality is still a little too high. Maybe take it down a few notches, it doesn't completely destroy my vision yet.

is this better?

It's clearly blue and gold.

But now it's a PNG! Cheater!

that's just chrome being chrome on the image uploadahem
sorry.

Ah, much appreciated. The artifacts feel much more natural now.
