@Blakeyrat and @accalia argue about Discourse and Bugtracking

well, at least the number's gone down. I think we can get it down to zero if we enumerate the list and work out which issues are unacknowledged and which ones have been resolved or placed on the roadmap.

  • The problem is the gigantic gaping "won't fix" void.

if a bug is filed properly and then closed wontfix then it won't be fixed baring a PR from an insterested party.

    -shrug-

i fail to see how that's different than any other project. I've certainly closed my fair share of issues as WONTFIX when the cost of fixing them outweighs the benefit to the users, particularly when the set of affected users is a limited subset of the user base.

If you're not interested in filing bugs in the bug tracker that's your perogative, but don't expect sympathy from me when your issues aren't addressed in that case.

  • I don't know if you're talking about me specifically or "you" in the general case, but Discourse doesn't even have a bug tracker, and the thing they do have, which they stupidly call a bug tracker even though it's not, is lorded over by the World's Biggest Jackass so that serious discussion of bugs is impossible.

In any case, Discourse has absolutely NO idea what would benefit the users, since they never actually talk to any users or do usability studies or show any even vague signs whatsoever that they know more than jack shit about developing user-facing software.

the answer to that is "yes" i am talking both to you, blakeyrat, directly and to a generalized "you"

and you're welcome to have that opinion and i'll not argue that your opinion is wrong, but at the same time Discourse does have a specific place to file bugs, your refusal to use that resource absolves me of any responsibility to be sympathetic to your complaints that your bug reports are not getting addressed.

even filing the bug reports here in the bugs category would be something. there's enough of us around that do file bugs in meta.d that would be capable of crossposting your bug reports should you actually make them.

  • But I don't want Discourse to get better. I want it to die entirely, and all the Discourse developers to go away, and for us to get some decent forum software around here. We've discussed this before.

  • FoxDev

if that's your position, more power to you.

Just don't expect any sympathy when you claim that your issues are not being addressed.

  • When did I ever expect your sympathy for absolutely anything whatsoever?

    That came out of nowhere.

I'm sorry, I mistook your comment below

as being something other than pure hostility towards a developer of the forum software that we're using. I foolishly assumed that you actually had a point making the comment, that there were actual issues you were referring to that could possibly be addressed to make the forum experience better for you and everyone else.

Well i have made a right donkey of me on that front. I hang my head in shame that i dared to think even for a moment that you would care to improve your experience with discourse.
