Is it too late to make money off of old people who are confused by the internet?

  • I was looking for some ways to make money on the side (like I used to in the late 90s) and I thought about old people. Back then me and my buddies used to charge little old grannies $50 and hour to work on their basic HTML sites. We totally took them to the bank.

Are there still clueless people like this around?

You know what I'm talking about. Seniors who have never been on the internet. Old people who are confused by "this world wide web thing".

I need some extra cash. There has to be some gullible folks still out there. Surely they haven't all become internet savvy.

  • You rat bastard.

I do hope that you are just trying to be funny. My "granny", as you put it, was completely cleaned out by a jerk HTML opportunist. She would always say that "Johnny" was working on her website and continually making "improvements".

It was a simple HTML site which focused on genealogy. I would have helped her on it, but this "Johnny" lived down the street from her and she felt obliged to help him out financially. To the tune of $75 an hour. Yes, you read that right. $75 and hour.

I told her on several occasions that it didn't look like anything was changing on the site, and that she should see the work done before she payed him. However, she was such a nice lady that she gave him the benefit of the doubt and continually paid him. She eventually bankrupted.

Was it her fault? I don't think so. She was an innocent, kind lady who only wanted to help. She had no idea that "Johnny" was going to drain every last penny from her.

  • I hate to say it, but it was your grandmother's fault.  She was the one paying a ridiculous amount of money for something that could be done cheaply and not taking anyones advice.  If she was losing her mind (and trust me, I know what it's like, because my grandfather has dementia), then it's your fault for not stepping in and taking control of the situation.  Obviously, if Johnny was being paid to work on the site and he wasn't working on it, she could sue him.  However, you'd have to prove that he was really doing something totally unrelated during that time, and even then you probably wouldn't win because I doubt there was any real contract involved and it was a long time ago.

  • Looks like CPound is looking to get into the scamming business....

  • CPound, I hate you. You are the kind of person who makes people afraid and give them a hard time trusting on IT professionals. There has to be a very special place in hell for the likes of you.

Indeed. This one to be precise.

He always was, he just used to want some company to over pay him.

But I was going to say "Looks like CPound is still newguy".

  • If you are not joking then you are a massive arsehole.  Yes, there are people that stupid, but if you are going to scam someone please don't do it to someone who really needs the money

  • Man, you guys are really easy to troll. When faced with a thread like this, the best response (if you're not a mod) is to rate it a 1 and move on. Calling CPound a jerk is a waste of time, since I can guarantee you he doesn't care, and most likely finds it amusing.

  • A few weeks ago, CPound was chosen "favourite troll" with a great majority, leaving TubeRodent far behind in popularity; so I really wonder why anyone takes his posts for real anymore.

  • This is one of my favorite CPound posts.  I wish him luck with his new found career.  I hope it brings him much happiness and wealth.

  • La.

At least I'm not AmmoQ, right CW?

  • Way to stay on top of your own threads.
