Darkwing Duck did a Twin Peaks spoof, it was weirder than the normal episodes.
-
it was weirder than the normal episodes
I would be impressed by that level of weirdness, but I stumbled upon cartoon network with my daughter, and the new generation of cartoons there, has broken the 5th wall while jumping over the warp-speed shark.
Yeah, but for its time, a weird DWD episode would have been out there.
-
Yeah but they all try too hard.

cartoon network
I was pleasantly surprised by Steven Universe. It has influences from modern cartoons without going full-on Dada, as seems to be the norm these days. The episode that crossed over with some show called "Uncle Grandpa" took a serious nosedive in terms of watchability for me.

I actually like that Adventure Time leaves hints about their world actually being a post-apocalyptic our world. Other than that, I don't care much for it.
-
I couldn't get past the first few episodes. I was just... lost.
Steven Universe starts in media res like Adventure Time, but it's a much, much smaller amount of backstory you're missing out on. I mean, right off the bat, you have three seemingly-human characters in a donut shop, and one of them wants an ice cream sandwich that just got discontinued. That's something you can relate to easily, so you're on pretty solid footing until someone says "magic bellybutton". At which point you're like, que? By the end of the first episode you've realized it's basically a magical girl show with a little boy in it, though, so you're back on solid ground again.
Episode 1 of Adventure Time I'm going, who are these people, where are we, what are the rules of this setting, what tropes are in play here? Apparently candy zombies are a thing? And princesses? The princess is named Bubblegum, is the whole thing candy-themed? But the main guy isn't a candy bar, and neither is the dog. I felt adrift.

I meant to type 5th wall.

Why are you limiting yourself to only squares? Shapist!

i... but.... no......

I meant to type 5th wall.
That doesn't make sense. Breaking the 5th wall is interacting with someone IRL and in social media, generally by continuing conversations across the two contexts.[1]
Breaking the 4th wall is when an fictional character begins interacting with the real world, either by realizing that they are a fictional character, or by interacting with the audience in some way.[2]
So how does a TV show character break the 5th wall?
-
I LIKE PENTAGRAMS TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SATANIST!!! DEVIL WORSHIPPER!!!
Or are you reaching back to the earlier roots of the pentagram? In which case:
PAGAN!!!
;)
-
Doesn't that depend on which way it's oriented ..?
-
So how does a TV show character break the 5th wall?
When the fictional character starts talking to the viewer on Twitter?

My favourite Uncyclopedia entry is this:
-
So how does a TV show character break the 5th wall?
I buttumed it was hyperbole/inflation.

Can't a guy just wax pedantic without everyone being dicks about it?

To some in both groups 'yes', others 'no'. Though the second group using whichever orientation is more likely in my experience than the first group.

Oh hey, that show that got taken off air here after six episodes because it was "too violent".
I did have the NES game, though. It was cool.

This reminded me of the rumour that Donald Duck was banned in Finland for not wearing pants
