Even though i just printed something for you you need to install a printer first

So i'm printing off an resume to refer to when interviewing today. they're PDFs so open them up in my trusty copy of Acrobat that came preinstalled on my work computers.
Print the coverletter.... all is well.
alt tab to the resume and print it.....

Are you the interviewer or the interviewee?
-
interviewer, for a cross department applicant. (if i was the interviewee i'd have printed several copies at home, both so i had spare copies for my interviewers and because i have a laser printer and nicer paper there)
which is a in it's own right i may eventually write up. ;-)

No need to wish you luck then. Every internal applicant we've had in the last few years has been a shambles, I look forward to your tale...

i meant he's an external applicant for an entirely different department that asked me to interview him for them.
like i said,

If it's not another development department, then that is truly a

That happens here.
Although here it's only the people who fancy a skive that agree to it.

Our company just hired a new front-end developer based on interviews only with back-end developers. It was kind of weird.
Guy seems ok though.

it's kind of that, well except for the only part. I get the feeling they're going to try to slot him in the web/IT liaison role as the current liaison is.... well he started confrontational about IT not providing web with the needed resources to do their jobs (because they gave us ~10 minutes warning when the wanted new kit, when they had known about the need for months)
things kind of went down hill from there, as you can well imagine.

Is it really? I have a laser printer and I don't think it's at all.

i excell at torturing gramming it seems.
the applies to the non-parenthetical comment in the paragraph above the not the parenthetical comment in same.

Web/IT liaison?
Can these people not just talk to each other?
-
Talking is a to management.

Management most things.

Can these people not just talk to each other?
honestly the problem really appears to be on the web side. all i'm demanding is a weeks notice of any hardware changes needed (it's all virtualized but there's setup time) and 24 hours notice of DNS changes needed (i'm trying to get that in their court)
they don't run on deadlines that tight they can't tell us "oh we need a new server setup for next week" or "oh, we have this site going live tomorrow and need the DNS flipped at xx00"
that's all i'm demanding. everything else is flexible and i practically bend over backwards to help them sort out. but i'm not spending another evening babysitting a server setup (not that it's hard. basically just stay attached to the terminal session and make sure puppet doesn't spit out any errors at me) because they couldn't plan far enough ahead.

So there's a person employed because someone high enough up doesn't have the balls to say "Oi, this stuff has an SLA you morons"?

not exactly. they're employed because i had the nergve to say that and the web team decided that instead of holding to the SLA and planning ahead a bit they prefered putting their hands over their ears and saying "LA LA LA LA! I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" while continuing to operate in reactionary panic mode.
the IT/WEB management meetings i occasionally get to listen in to are actually hilarious because of that..

Sometimes they do. But sometimes they'll send a fax. And it's the liaison's job to bring the fax over. He's a people person, you see.

Tom Smykowski, is that you?
