Hey New Member - Interview story

Hey just found the site and really enjoy it. I have worked as a programmer for the last 17 years. I am no hot shot hacker or anything. When I started back in 90's the internet was not around in the business world and the only connection was dial-up and if you were talking high speed then you were talking about a 9600 baud vs. a 1200 baud. It was a time when a very bright developer actually told me he could not understand why anyone would need a gig of space on thier personal machines. I still trough that quote up in his face to this day.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
Since I have managed to hang around so long and not be pushed out on the ice flow (i.e. management), I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, technologies, and companies. I got to interview perspective developers for many of these companies. In one of these companies that will remain un-named (Ross Perot started it) we had interview teams. One of my buddies asked me to help out with his team. I sat in on this team interview of a potential network guy. My buddy also asked one of our network guys to be on the interview team also so he could ask appropriate technical questions.<o:p></o:p>
Well my friend and I were asking the basic interview questions (If you were a bird would you be smart enough not to fly into a window). Throughout the entire interview our network guy had asked NO questions. Finally at the end my buddy ask him if he as any questions for the candidate. He holds up the resume (the guy used to work for the NSA) and ask only one question and I swear this is it word for word:<o:p></o:p>
"Sir, Is it true that the NSA has a UFO in the basement of it's building"<o:p></o:p>
Interviewee - "I am not allowed to discuss anything that goes on or went on at the NSA building"<o:p></o:p>
"Ahh Interesting"<o:p></o:p>
Needless to say the guy did not accept our offer of employment.<o:p></o:p>

That's interesting, because I tried to get an internship at CSE-CST (Canadian version of CIA), which requires top-secret clearance. The problem is that the point of an internship is to gain experience to help you get a job later. However, if I'm not allowed to discuss any aspect of my job, how is the experience supposed to help me?

you can still get a recommendation and talk about the kind of work that you did.
