The quote says short lived. But look at WWI (esp. War Socialism) and early New Deal nonsense (largely an attempt by old Wilson hands to bring the WWI stuff back) if you think that sort of thing is a fluke.

Sure. There were all sorts of crazy war time restrictions. This was apparently justified on an assumption that they'd save on wrapping material for non-sliced bread, as well as drive down demand, thus saving wheat:

well i actually give discourse a vote of confidence.
but that's more because i'm confident it will keep me amused coming up with new ways to break/abuse it for at least the next ten years..... so i'm confident in it's bugs more than in the software..... i guess. ;-)

I disagree with this statement. I think probably @sam, @zogstrip, perhaps @riking and others also have confidence in the future — and perhaps even present — quality of Discourse. Even some (poor, deluded) users who are not Discodevs have expressed praise for Discourse, though they are, of course, a tiny minority.
