Question for the crooks the brits kicked out
-
I know there are some Aussies on this forum and I saw something that caught my interest. Anyone in the area they talk about here (lots of spiders arriving via ballooning):

I thought the question was about elections, and a shift in government make-up :P
-
This is a pretty awesome story. I'm glad I don't live there.
Also, "the 27th April"? The grammar good.
-
Spiderwebs.
I'm not usually bothered about spiders, but fuck that.

Shame we couldn't kick those to Australia too.
-
I think that would be an awesome thing to walk through.
-
Makes me wonder. Spider silk is mostly protein. Protein they get from eating insects. How many bugs did they have to eat to be able to lay down that much web?
-
Until you have spiders all over your face.

Fuelled by Discourse.

That's awesome!

Spiderwebs.
My cousin is shit terrified of spiders. If you even say the word, she gets a cold chill. I just sent that news story to her. I am likely not going to get an invite to the next family reunion now.

Win.
I am likely not going to get an invite to the next family reunion now.
Correction: Double win.

That's both cruel and genius.

That's both cruel and genius.
I remember once when we were teenagers, she had just had her hair done. Spa day with her mother. When I saw her I said, "You look really nice cuz...wait...is that a spider in your hair?"
Spa day undone in less than a second. I felt horrible...and horribly amused at the same time.

Wasn't that one all interior?

It appears so. It also appears to be time to burn that building down. No rational jury would convict of insurance fraud under those circumstances.

For some reason, I assumed this was referring to the recent elections... And reading further, I see I am not the first to make that assumption.
-
Had read the article when originally published, currently rereading.
EDIT: Charismatic Minifauna was one of the best sci blogs they had going, think it's the only real good one they still have.

Oh fuck-all. I swore that the internet could no longer surprise me. While looking over spider memes...I was surprised.

Seriously, just don't click on that. You have been warned.

after those words always comes a "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck i didn't want to see that"

I thought about it for myself. Of course, when I first read your reply, I thought you were referring to the spoilered image...

Give them enough time, they will burn it down eventually.

I just sent that news story to her.
The reply I received was: "I am not clicking that. It is probably the news story about it raining spiders."

If you are trying to troll family with a link you have to feed them through a minifier first.
-
I did.
-
Funny enough, the last thing I minified was the Tumblr about Tubgirl and Goatse.
-
You could do one and promise it is about an animal show.

No rational jury would convict of insurance fraud under those circumstances.
It wouldn't be insurance fraud unless you tried to collect insurance money for it. Arson is a different matter. Under common law, AFAICT, it wouldn't be arson because it is not a "dwelling," and assuming it's the owner that's setting it alight, 'burning one's own dwelling does not constitute common law arson, even if the purpose was to collect insurance, because "it was generally assumed in early England that one had the legal right to destroy his own property in any manner he chose."' Under Criminal Damage Act (1971), damaging or destroying your own property appears also not to be an offense. In the US, it varies by state, but apparently "without consent" is common in the wording of relevant statutes; therefore, no arson would occur in such jurisdictions. I didn't find any relevant information for Australia.
However, it is likely that in many jurisdictions, demolition and/or burning permits would be required. One could be prosecuted if such permits were required and not obtained.

Any chance you want to come to work for me? It would be worth it to just have a person there to constantly interrupt in the meetings with, "Well, technically...(long exposition)".
-
Seriously, just don't click on that. You have been warned.
Hovering unspoilered it just enough to see the general idea of the picture. That was quite sufficient.

I am looking for a job.
Filed under: Technically, I am supposed to be looking for a job; I am posting on TDWTF.

I...wha...

Aaaack! Expanding the "in reply to," to figure out which post you're replying to, unspoilers the image.
-
Oh yeah....
Is that new?
-
Is that new?
Nope. And it caused me to look at the raw of your post to see if it was on purpose, thought you were trolling people that didn't look.
-
Nah, genuinely didn't realise it did that.
-
I remember complaints about quoting doing so. I don't specifically recall mention of "in reply to" doing so, but it's probably not new.
-
Yep, read that paper -- it's actually a really cool microbiome going on there, with insect larvae breeding in the various tanks under that roof (probably feeding off of organic nutrition that settles out in there) and the spiders attracted to the insects.
As to the meme @Polygeekery posted...
I think I know what my 3.5e halfling druid will want for an animal companion now. ;)

damaging or destroying your own property appears also not to be an offense.
Also, I recall that in "Little House on the Prairie", Pa Ingalls burns the homestead to the ground before they move in order to recover the nails.
