Some topics don't have categories

Some topics in Meta have no categories associated with them. I have no idea what would even cause this ....

Those are both Lounge topics. WTF?
Lounge? I don't have that category. I just got Regular so maybe it has something to do with that?

Try logging out and logging back in?
The Lounge is restricted to Regulars only.Maybe some part of the system thinks you don't have access but another part does. I put my Yamirant thread there in case I accidentally divulge enough detail to dox my employer or something.

What is this, Windows 95?

What happens when you click on Yamirant? Where do you go?

It shows the topic, but there's no category information

Oh that's weird. It should be visually distinct:

Hard refresh?

I'm using the TDWTF theme, not the Discourse theme.

Shouldn't matter - both should have it.

Oh. In that case,

Speaking of which, another bug:

It shows the topic, but there's no category information
because the category information wasn't loaded when the tab loaded. you didn't have access to the category before and categories only load on initial page load.
because discourse apparently.

Speaking of The Lounge, is it intentionally left off the All Categories list, or is that just discourse being discourse again?
-
Discourse.
-
I can see it in the hamburger menu, but I meant this list (What is it called?):
It's not there when I scroll down the list either
-
Select Meta; you'll get a second dropdown.
Notice you don't see One Post, Flags/Badges, or Coding Challenge in that first one either.
-
It's a sub-category of Meta. Not a root category.
In other words, the "All Categories" label is a LIE.

Only if you consider sub-categories to be categories.
-
Ah, the joys of discourse, where nothing makes sense.
-
-
Why wouldn't they?!
Depends on how you're looking at things. Sub-categories have parents but no children. Categories have no parents and might have children. If you're thinking about them as just things that organize topics, then you're going to be confused.
I think the copy could be improved to change "all" to something clearer like "top level." But someone knocked down my bikeshed, so there you go.
INB4 YOU CAN'T ANTHROPOMORPHIZE CATEGORIES (or sub-categories)

Categories have no parents and might have children.
Couldn't they just have a root category with some magic ID and a name like Uncategorized or something?

There is a 'category' called Uncategorized. Or maybe it's a state where there's no linked category for a topic. On here, only admins can see stuff there. Sort of. It's...a weird place.

Like Camelot?

No, that's a silly place.
