Server cooties strike meta.d
-
I swear this has nothing to do with me.
-
-
BOTZZZ!
<Fuck you Discourse, my body is completely fine. You objectifying bastard.
-
They'll blame this thread, won't they?

-
Why is this in the Lounge? Everybody should participate in the joy of servercooties!
Filed Under: you guys should totally add a tracker for meta.d on servercooties.com #BadIdeas
-
We're obviously in cahoots to kill the server. Why wouldn't we use a public topic otherwise? It's just uncivilized this way!
-

err.... whoops. was supposed to be plain meta.
one moment.
-
It's back.
-
Don't worry. They are using Discourse so we will probably be able to reuse this topic in a while
Filed Under: Let's see if we hit the necro-toaster!
-
That link redirects me to https://meta.discourse.org/ . Did that thread get Jeffed into Bolivian?
-
It's just a few messages that might not be visible to everyone. I'd almost call them belgium, but that is a bad word.
<the letter count fit so I (ab)used a shortcut. what?
-
So the ONE TIME I'm ACTUALLY not permitted to view a resource, it doesn't tell me I'm not permitted to view a resource. What the crap.
-
If it <inb4 goes down because of bugs, how do they track the bugs to fix them?
-
Easy: just post them to me- oh, wait…
-
Slight offtopic: are we even allowed to post links to here on meta.d? Or is that a big no-no.
-
I've posted a few to bug report info; they've not been Jeffed
-
we even allowed to post links to here on meta.d?
yes we are
Or is that a big no-no.
nah, but they're quite likely to be jeffed.
-
Well, it's a critical part of a bug report! Link to here is the only anomaly so far!
-
they're quite likely to be jeffed
Depends what they are; I've linked to some bug report threads that have more info, and none of those have been Jeffed
-

then fire away!
-
Slight offtopic: are we even allowed to post links to here on meta.d?
Depends. If it's relevant to an actual report, then yes. If it's trolling (or even hints at it), expect to be Jeff'd.

It is, because it's an anomaly in the repro procedure:
Why the fuck is it not oneboxing now? Oh, I give up.
-
I think oneboxing got disabled due to a bug where it would try to onebox the local topic / message linked instead of the one on meta.d.
This could all be related. I think it was something that @riking broke.
-
Well, other sites that would usually onebox work as intended. So it's an Intercourse thing.
-
-
Oh, I mean the link bug as well. I mixed up the context at first because both fit.
-
-
-
No, this is all due to GlusterFS.
Also, that's a brand-new 503 page there.
-
servercooties is server cooties. :-P we care not what the cause actually is.
-
Basically, it's a distributed system shitting its pants once the load on it crosses some critical threshold. What a surprise.
-
If I may ask - how many fucking services need to run for Discourse to show me some text on the screen?
Us who still live in toxic hellstew land have... ummm... a webserver and a RDBMS? Insert load balancing as required.
Discourse, I already lost count,
-
So another superb choice of technology from the Discoteam? Or is this a sensible technology just configured terribly?
-
Us who still live in toxic hellstew land have...
Yeah but you're living in the now, not the future. Six bajillion open source different hipster technologies that massively overcomplicate shit is how the future is.
-
Fuck the future then! Where's my green monochrome CRT? I'm going back to DOS. That shit ran the entire kaboodle using only 4 files.
It runs QBASIC, LOGO, Commander Keen and Prince of Persia. I'm good.
-
-
GlusterFS seems quite complicated and/or fragile.
So when configuration changes, all clients must reload, or what?
And you need translators?
Also: getting started, in depth

Nope, it's a terrible choice of technology. Jeff said so! Repeatedly.
"I am now officially scared shitless of all these distributed file systems" -- @sam saffron 2015
-
Some sanity is showing there. But I fear it may only be remains. We lose our shit using this thing. The poor guy has to work on it!
May his neurons rest in peace.
-
The toys of our youth is over there
-
-
I didn't realise Scooter had covered that devicesupport song too!
-
It's the new Darude - Sandstorm!
-
I always loved how a song with a "Fuck" in its name has such a happy tune within it.
-
VNSFW song that also has a happy tune and features that word
Disclaimer: Song does not represent the wishes or desires of hedgehogs

-
-
OK, this one isn't such a happy song, but whatever:

No, this is all due to GlusterFS.
Is it doing something stupid like assuming that all distributed transactions complete in a fixed amount of time. (Nuh uh!)
