Yet another plot twist on unread post counter being wrong
-
This is new, at least to me:
More unread posts than actual replies! Do posts from the original poster not count, or something?
-
The unread count probably includes deleted posts.
Yes, that is a
-
It might be counting posts that are now deleted. The actual current post number for that topic is #17685.
-
Also, what?
Leaving and re-entering the topic, the timestamps became the same.

The Flux Discapacitor is acting up again...

This thing is never going to be fixed, is it.
-
I love it how there's no question mark. I do not see this as an error.

That ... should be tested.

Has nobody noticed that the number is reversed yet?
-
How many unreads does this topic have for you according to counter bubbles?
-
In Chrome, the bubble I reconstructed using developer tools was left-to-right.
-
Has nobody noticed that the number is reversed yet?
That would be a nice explanation, except:I'm going to go with the bubble counting deleted posts.

Assuming you were talking to me and not to yourself, 14:
Edit: opened the topic for the first time. It went right to post 20.
- Going back without scrolling gave me this:
- Going forward again, sent me to post 19/30 according to the greenbar, post 15 according to the URL in the address bar (I failed to notice what was in the address bar the first time around, unfortunately);
- Back again, same count of old unread posts; forward again, still 15 in address bar but 18 in greenbar;
- Another cycle and it's 17 in greenbar. I failed to notice the URL again;
- Another cycle and it's 12 in URL, 15 in greenbar;
- Another cycle and it's 11 in URL, 12 in greenbar;
- Again: 10, 14;
- Again: 9, 12;
- At this time I decide to look at the URL in the topics list (http://what.thedailywtf.com/c/meta/one-post): it says 21;
- This time I click the link in the list instead of pushing forward in the browser. The URL in the address bar is magically 20 (not 21 like it was in the link) and the bar says 24/30;
- Going back, the unread count is now 6 (grey) and the URL in the link is 25;
- Click it. Address bar 24, greenbar 28;
- Back. Unread count is 2 (grey), link says 29;
- Follow link. Address bar is 28, greenbar is 30/30;
- Pushed back. Unread count is missing, implying I've seen all the posts.And yet I've never seen any of the posts below 9.
Discourse is the gift that keeps on giving.
Edit 2: Alright, I was too fast with the accusations. Mea culpa.
This post is 6 days old and I had seen it before after all. Sending me to post 20 the first time around was correct. The unread count of 14 was also correct.
The scrolling while going back and forth is all Discourse though.

Assuming you were talking to me and not to yourself, 14:
Anyone who ever entered the topic, yes.
See, it's not the RLO that messes the numbers up - I didn't post 41 posts.
-

-
A few days ago I saw a topic in my suggested topics list that showed an unread count of 20, but only 19 posts in the entire topic. Unfortunately I had already clicked a link when i noticed, so i couldnt get a screen grab.
-
19 posts or 19 replies? Because Discourse doesn't account for the first post in the reply count.
Of course that wouldn't explain why it showed a bubble with 20 instead of "new".
-
True, 19 replies, but yes it still is off since if I had read 0 posts it should be marked new.
If I had visited the topic but not stayed long enough to have even the OP marked read, you'd think it would show a gray bubble instead of blue, or still show as new altogether.

Dude, GlaDOS quotes are timeless.
Like Yoda quotes, only in the correct order they are.

I prefer Gordon Freeman quotes. That guy had some pretty good lines.
