Kiss and makeup

personally, I prefer seeing women without makeup. YMMV

Most people who say this tend to think they mean it, but what they actually like is women in natural, understated makeup.

But, yeah. I think the whole no makeup selfie thing started out as a charity/awareness raising exercise, then morphed into "look how brave I am". Always seemed a bit pointless to me

I'm not going into discussions about this, but I stand by that. That said, if it's a thing someone enjoys I'm not criticizing that and I respect that choice. However:

    @Jaloopa said:

    look how brave I am

is a thing, and I'd argue that having that attitude means you probably wear makeup due to social pressures instead.

Then again, I'm speculating here, not being female and all.

There was an Inside Amy Schumer sketch I saw the other day along those lines...

I'm tempted to say that women that go without makeup and then claim 'look how brave I am!' have poor self-image.

…and now to wait for the inevitable backlashcounterpoints

I still find women attractive without makeup, but yeah, the natural and understated stuff definitely tends to improve the situation.

ADDED: I think this is similar to how properly styled hair can make a woman more attractive. Popular culture tells me that the opposite holds for men.

Maybe, maybe it's just that society dictates they should wear it. I don't know for sure, I am not a woman.

    +1.

    My wife doesn't wear makeup.

So what are all those makeup-like things in our medicine cabinet??

    ;)

The obvious answer, assuming both these statements are true, is that you're a drag queen.

Or you have a daughter, but that's not as interesting

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

    They're not exclusive options.

  • kills Dumbledore

    @loopback0 said:

    They're not exclusive

That would explain it as well - @ijij's wife doesn't mind his girlfriend keeping her makeup in the house

  • @Jaloopa said:

You'd better not find my daughter interesting.

I'm sure my fiancée would agree

My partner doesn't wear makeup normally, it seems very odd on her (to me anyway) when she does. I'm fairly sure I genuinely like the non-makeup look better.

It also takes a hell of a long time to do makeup, I prefer the version where we're both ready to go out the door in under 15 minutes 😄

  • @Jaloopa said:

Unless your fiancee is @ijij's daughter

I spent most of my teenage years getting all dolled up to pop down the road to the coop, because my mum spent most of the same period telling me repeatedly how (paraphrasing) if I ever ventured out of the house without makeup on, without my hair straightened, or wearing my glasses instead of contact lenses, I'd be socially ostracized for the rest of my life.

Despite the fact that this is the same woman who on multiple occasions commented on the fact that I was wearing makeup, when I wasn't.

My mum never wore makeup, and I never saw the girls at my school without it. I was probably around 16 before I started seeing the same person with and without makeup, so I tend to have trouble noticing if someone has any on or not, unless it's really obvious. A bit of light makeup, applied skilfully, usually looks better than none IMO, but if it's done badly, or there's so much I can tell it's there straight away, I prefer an all natural face

  • @Jaloopa said:

    Then we're good.

While we're here tho', could you ask her to come get her makeup out of my medicine cabinet? My wife is getting suspicious ;)

    (Hey, you brought it up.)

Hmm, it all seems to look unnatural when you get close. You suddenly notice that the other person doesn't appear to have any pores or that the lips are the wrong colour (unless they have cyanosis) etc...
Might be just that I haven't seen correctly done light makeup of course.

I'm basically agreeing with Jaloopa's original point which (I think) is that my wife doesn't appear be wearing makeup (because I am a clueless man) but is actually wearing some - at least some times.

Although why he's talking about my wife wearing makeup is beyond me - ooohhhh, he's using generalities? I see now.

  • 🚽 Regular

I don't think I missed what he was saying? I just wanted to offer an opinion/anecdote that was related. You can ignore it if you don't think it added anything to thread.

  • Nothin personal... just, that, like at my house there might be more makeup than meets eye...

    Or I'm totally clueless.

Or I've not had enough actual breakfast to go with my coffee and I'm being a jerky

  • This thread has a disappointing amount of Kiss and makeup content.

  • I always wondered if the face makeup they used was a purposeful "KISS and make up" visual pun or just coincidental.

That's not what my wife looks like close up with makeup on. She's definitely in the understated / natural camp.

:hanzo:'d by the post I'm replying to. 😖

    Meh.

If you're gonna do makeup, go all the way. Doing heavy makeup or odd hair dying right so that it doesn't look like you got out of a paint factory is a skill, looking good au naturel is just genetic roulette.

  • my ex girlfriend looked the best when she got up from the bed(bonus points if she was using one of my t-shirts).

that said, i'm in the natural makeup camp

  • Or he has a son that is a drag queen and wants his dad to think the makeup belongs to his mom.

If that proves true then I will say to my son "Offspring, today, it is a good day to die".

Since, you know, he shouldn't be hiding stuff...

if anybody besides me remembers that

Read a great article on ESPN about KISS coming in and playing a small High School's Homecoming dance...

They helicoptered in, had a parade, stuck around for an entire day.

At one point a small child in makeup pointed out that Gene Simmons had done his (GS's) makeup wrong...
"and I was like, no way, I AM Gene Simmons, it CAN'T be 'wrong' - then I looked in the mirror... and the little putz was right."
(paraphrasing, but he did say 'little putz' 😆)

  • @ijij said:

Are you upset he's hiding it from you? Why, you could have been doing father-daughter dances and showing him how to use tampons and all that stuff!

  • @Bort said:

And we're back to my original line of thought... I don't a thing about girly stuff.

Even my daughter doesn't go to dances....

I refer you to my original response to @onyx's post:

    @abarker said:

About two months after we started dating, I first saw my then-girlfriend-now-wife with out makeup on. We were running late for a movie, so I was able to convince her that she didn't need makeup (she really didn't). Over the next year, she gradually wore less and less makeup, eventually settling on wearing only concealer. Six months after that, she ran out of concealer and decided it wasn't worth buying more.

Now, about 7 years later, she still isn't wearing makeup. Not only that, but she can't understand why her friends are afraid to take their kids to the park without plastering their faces first. Victory!

We celebrate our 8 year wedding anniversary in August. Between that and this post by @onyx, your assertion isn't looking too solid.

  • BINNED

Dunno, I'd still give it credibility, given other posts here. However, you and I apparently don't fit in the "most" category. I don't have an interesting story to corroborate this, so I guess everyone will have to take my word for it, if they want.

To clarify additionally - makeup or no makeup is not a huge factor for me, tbqh. Preference, yes, but not critical in any sense. I'm not big on the looks front in general, I just don't care as much about that as I do for the personality.

Which ties into my recent comments on a music video in /t/1000 - yes it's full of pretty women, but all I see are bodies. Do they look good? Yes. Do I have any idea who they are? No. So it doesn't keep my attention, really. The "wooo, bewbs!" reflex goes only so far to keep my attention.

  • I survived the hour long Uno hand

I don't wear makeup, and my husband has never indicated wanting me to.

That said, I have met a lot of guys who don't seem to understand how much makeup is being worn to create a "no-makeup look" in magazines and movies and music videos. I could see one of them being shocked at what his girlfriend looks like without makeup easily.
