The ad on the main page of this site is misleading!

  • I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I just now clicked on the NetFlix ad on the main page, and it took me to here

    Internet Business in a box

Call me crazy, but that is a bit misleading, no? Is anyone else experiencing this?

  • "Ads" you say?  Never heard of 'em.

It's those things that supply income to the owners of the site - so they can still be online providing free content for their readers.

  • Thank you for that statement. I know there are plenty of sites so ladden with ads that it really is no fun visiting them without an ad blocker. On the other hand, many small sites, like my personal homepage, try to be moderate with ads. But with all the people having AdBlock fully active all the time, those google ads are pointless.  :-(

You mean to tell me they don't just earn money by my patronage?!?   In all honesty, though, I don't block ads on sites I frequent and enjoy, such as this one.  Actually, I do block some ads on this site, but only because they take so damn long to load and Firefox refuses to finish structuring the page until it gets them.

  • I saw an ad the other day that looked suspiciously like a netflix ad, but never said it was netflix.  I thought it was mightly clever to hijack someone elses marketing campaign.   Why invest the money yourself?

Up until recently, I had nothing against google ads -- i let them through on purpose, even. However, since those stupid "calculate the name of your perfect lover" things've appeared, googlesyndication.com's gone back on my blocklist, thankyou very much.

I have very little patience for inane averts. NoScript blocks most ads by default, but if one slips through that I don't like (generally if I like a site and decide to let 'em have my "impressions"), it gets personally blocked. Call me a freeloader if you like, but that's the nature of the web.

For the most part, my company blocks them -- I don't get any say in the matter.  But at home, I don't use any adblocker.  Nevertheless, I normally don't look at the ads and never click on them.  Is that OK?  And am I allowed to go into the bathroom or kitchen during commercials on TV?  Or change channels?

  • The problem is it looks like a NetFlix ad, it behaves like a NetFlix ad, etc. I clicked on it because I wanted to give Alex a tiny bit of income from a click-through, but if it took me somewhere where it's not NetFlix, I get pissed.

     That's why I posted it.

Of course that's ok. I don't ever look at ads myself :-)

Nobody is trying to force you to CLICK those suckers. Just let them shine a little light on your face...

It depends on the profession of the person you're asking.

    Seriously.

Hmm, I think that is a criminal offense in the UK...

Alex... please explain what is going on!

    Civil offence, IIRC.
