PDATA Avanti?

Hey, anybody heard of "PDATA Avanti"?
Customer wants us to convert app (or database) from that to SQL.
The best I can tell, it's some kind of outdated Sweedish MS Access wannabe.
The top site I could find was this: http://reset-it.se/avanti.html
Their main purpose: helping people escape Avanti.Avanti is a Swedish database software developed by PDATA, and sold for several thousand
copies, to the delight of many customers.Yup, doesn't sound good.

Nope, but this third match on Google looks promising...
-
Sounds like fun... and when you learn how well Swedish are at localizing applications, you'll love it even more (assuming you don't know Swedish)

Oh great. Perfect.

I don't. I like how there isn't even a single English article mentioning this thing.
This job is gonna be fun.

I strongly recommend asking the customer for more info then.

Yup, we are asking the guy to send us at least this exported database, preferably the whole app.

This should make you wonder about the sorry state of NoSQL today and what you might be getting into for the future. Imagine when the guys behind [DATABASE HERE] goes flop. What you gonna do dawg? At least this is Oracle's main line of business and they aren't going bankrupt in the foreseeable future. And PostgreSQL is OSS so.

I used my swedish-fu to find some more information, and found an article from 2006 describing the system and it's creators (www.flodata.se -- wayback has some of their pages but not the most relevant). The article I found claims that "Avanti is run with SQL Server, and is developed in Visual Basic with some parts running in Microsofts latest plaform Dotnet (sic)".

I... I'm not sure if this scares me more or less than my initial buttumption that it's a fully custom database implementation.

Hmm, so it means it already has an SQL database? Now I'm confused.
I guess we'll see once they come back with something.

Yeah, especially the more complicated variants, like MongoDB (as opposed to, say, redis).
On the other hand, OSS and open data formats give you at least some options.

Avanti is run with SQL Serve
Yeah, this sounds like:
We use MSSQL to store OUR preferences but use a customized data serialization technology for YOUR data
Haha! Where's our check?!?

I found some other similar products also named avanti, so it might not be the same... Wisma, who apparently own pdata these days is fairly big and active, they may be able to help (for an OSS fee, of course).

We expect a followup.

Yeah, me too :-)
This client is a bit flakey.

At least they are not asking daily why shit isn't done yet without actually delivering all you need, I hope.

Luckily I'm isolated from this guy right now. Let others deal with his shit.

Nors, Swedes, it's all Scandinavian to me
/me waits for someone to include the Fins (and, specifically, mix up any other Scandinavian language with Finnish) so he can fetch the popcorn.

I don't think it is possible to mix up finnish anymore than it already is.
