Another really bad translator used - WTF

  • this is not really technology related, so you have been warned:

I was staying overnight at sheremetevo 2 hotel in moscow (200$ per night), and i happened upon their menu.

I soon realized that they must have used google translator or the like to translate from russian to english. Its super funny to me, because i read russian, but its still pretty funny to most everyone else:

one of the funnier things from this menu is the fact that in russian the word for "crab" is the same word as the word for "cancer", and they have lots of things made with crabs in this menu...

  • There are only 2 dishes with cancer in it but I like the salad that comes with a ransom.

  • I'm torn between "The Raspberry", "The Strawberry" or "The Blueberry"

  • How comes 'Sweets of Manual Work' translates so badly? I love the idea tho, like deserts for people who work in mine shafts, not for anyone else.

  • 60 dollars for a pasta dish?! That's the real WTF

The hotel was in Russia so the price would be in Rubles, works out to be about 2 Dollars, can't fault the value there.

  • You guys are soooo funny!

    You're killing me!

  • mkoryak? Is that you?

  • I will have to try preparing my pastas on White Wine some time in the future.

Yahoo Finance says that's about a $20 pasta dish, so it's gotta be good right?

The price in the menu was about 1500 (I assume russian rubles), that makes over 60 US dollars if I'm any good at math....

Thank you, but no, thank you

  • I hate it when someone posts something all over the net ...

To be more precise, the homonym to "cancer" is "crawfish".

But if you like this sort of fun, you'd better go to China. The name "Pirate Bar" where someone managed to interpret "bar" as "the profession of lawyers" was the most absurd sign I have ever seen.

well moscow is the most expensive city in the world.. and this is a hotel, which is walking distance from the international airport in moscow, so it can get expensive.

  • Me, I can't decide if I want the Cancer Salad or Basement Pickles.

As for cross-posting this on some Java dev forum and here, do you really think there's a huge overlap in readers? If he'd posted it there and not here, I would have been denied a great laugh today.

But it's not a pasta dish, it's a *paste* dish!  That famous Russian delicacy!

Me,  I'm having the Ear Mediterranean with a white fish.
