Your license will expire in 17 days

  • One of our clients is an accounting service. They use Navision 4.0 SP3 as their main accounting software, and they also access their clients' accounting programs, some of which are various versions of Navision. For the last week or so, all of these Navision installs have been reporting that their license will expire in a few days, and this despite having different versions (I know that at least 4.0, 5.0, 2009 and 2013 are in use), and the licenses having been bought through different local partners.
I wonder what kind of screwup is behind this.

  • Expected upgrade path.

  • I just got an e-mail that the license at our accounting service was fixed. Logged on to their terminal server, started Navision and was greeted by "Warning! Your license will expire in 17 days!" again.

Then again, from what I hear, the license at their client that's running 2013 R2 has also been fixed, and it's still expiring...

    Navision

TRWTF, from what little contact I've had with it. Especially the development environment...

  • My real guess is that the entire enterprise is using one configuration file (including dev environments) which points at prod licenses (or maybe not prod...) and all the environments are pointed at the license file that expires in x days.

Good luck finding out which server it's pointed at.

  • The firms are completely independent, and their clients that run own Navision (or Dynamics Nav as it seems to be called now) either have Remote Dektop access set up, or (in the case of client that has 2013 R2), the client is running locally, but connects to their database over VPN. With clients that have their own Navision, they don't do any work in the local install, and there is no connection between them.

I wrote about that ages ago.

  • Not if Navivision themselves pointed them all to the same license file!

  • They aren't - the only point of contact between some of them is the RDP connection.

  • I mean't Navivision isn't using your silly licenses and is using some internal development license created years ago.

  • But all the instances, on separate computers, that are separate versions, just suddenly woke up one morning and went "I'm gonna use this garbage license!", all without talking to each other?

Filed Under: TDEMSYR, we need a new tag cloud to attack

    Y2.014583K?

  • So, Ender, it's been a little over 17 days. Like, 249 days over, but who's counting besides Discourse?

    What happen?

  • From what I can tell, all of these installs use the partners' development licenses, which are apparently time-limited. Each partner just installed an updated version of their license, so we're good to go for another few years.
