Mute functionality now on TDWTF.
-
Continuing the discussion from Now testing civilized mute on meta:
In case it's not clear from @RaceProUK's screenshot (I'm presuming,) I updated to beta4 this morning and we should have the mute functionality on here.
It's currently the bottom box at http://what.thedailywtf.com/my/preferences
-
and now we wait for the bugs to come in....
oh wait. we've already found some!
:-D
-
How long before Blakey overflows the number of mutees allowed?
-
How long before Blakey overflows the number of mutees allowed?
How long before he complains that it doesn't stop Like notifications? Because it doesn't stop Like notifications.
-
So how do I mute everyone?
-
-
-
```
$('article:not([data-user-id=304]) div.cooked').hide();FTFY :-D
-
How long before he complains that it doesn't stop Like notifications? Because it doesn't stop Like notifications.
Seriously?
-
Seriously?
sad to say it, but yes seriously. it stops replies, quotes and mentions, but not likes....
no i'm not sure how @sam managed that but i'm sure a fix will be implemented eventually.
-
Gee, I wonder if it's because he's an incompetent dumbshit who can't find his ass with both hands.
-
It only suppresses notifications? But you still see everything a muted person posts?
-
That's what makes it civilised. The Discodevs were against anything that would actually hide posts
-
Yeah, my original idea is that they should put posts by muted people in one of those expandos they use for other purposes (like when a post is deleted but before it disappears), but apparently Accalia removed that bit of the feature when she gave it to the moron idiots in charge of this codebase.
They also apparently don't let users mute admins, even when the admins aren't doing admin-y actions. But since it doesn't actually hide the posts I guess that doesn't matter because it's broken in a way more fundamental way.
Basically, the only "victory" here is them acknowledging there's a need for the feature. The actual implementation is useless trash.
Like everything else on Discourse.
You also still get like notifications.
-
Jeff did also propose a muted user's posts at least getting dimmed. If that gets implemented, it wouldn't be hard to make the posts disappear entirely with more CSS.
we can consider this V1 of the feature with the dimmed (like flagged) CSS class applied to that users posts. That will also help remind people who they have muted, too, and provide evidence of it working as designed when they enter values there.
How long before Blakey overflows the number of mutees allowed?
What's the rate limit on muting?
-
-
I'm surprised. I thought Jeff was all about "rate-limit all the things!"[1]. Maybe we should @-summon him and ask.
[1] I already created an image with that meme this week, so I'm not going to bother this time.
-
But that doesn't mean he put an admin knob to change how many people you can mute.
-
That's because he already is one, right?
-
It's right here.
-
is that......
well at least it's a simple error....
-
Gee, I wonder if it's because he's an incompetent dumbshit who can't find his ass with both hands.
I love you too blakey
-
It stands to reason that rate-limiting must also be rate-limited.
-
.hide()
/.show()
triggers a style recalculation (it calls getComputedStyle()), you should avoid it on page load (or in the same tick as other DOM changes)..addClass()
/.removeClass()
are faster.
It's not like he was DOING HIS JOB, or anything...
When does he? His lawn doesn't keep itself clear.
-
Some of those kids could take care of it. Of course, then they'd be on the lawn...
-
His lawn doesn't keep itself clear.
And now that Spring is finally getting here, it's not keeping itself short any more, either.
-
Maybe show those kids how to work a mower rather than shouting at them?
That's too similar to DOING HIS JOB
Hmm... GIS for "blade shoes":
Step 1: Replace with actual blades
Step 2: Give to kids
Eh. The sooner they get that Darwin award, the less of a nuisance they are.
