[CLOSED WONTFIX RUBY] Accented capital letters aren't counted as capitals
-
ŚÉŔÍÓÚŚĹÝ! THÉÝ ÁŔÉ ŃÓT ĆÓÚŃTÉD!
-
Is there a reason you want them to be counted so?
-
…consistency?
-

-
…consistency?
Because how it handles the whole "Body not descriptive" thing is consistent otherwise?
-
Not to forget, different languages have different interpretations of capitalization:

-
…and meta.d'd:
-
INB4 "WONTFIX ASDESIGNED CANTMATCHWITHAREGEX".
(huh. This body is invalid, though.)
-
ẞẞẞẞẞẞẞẞ
-
Yep, capital eszett isn't uppercase, either.
-
eszett
I always thought it was called a shaufesses (probably a horribly mangled spelling there)
Edit: It's AKA scharfes S (sharp S). One of those words I've only heard spoken not written down
-

Only if you consider those funny capitals to be normal capital letters. I sure don't.
-
INB4 "WONTFIX ASDESIGNED CANTMATCHWITHAREGEX".

Nah, they'll just say it's a minimal thing designed to stop casual yellers. Which is what they always say about this topic.
-
capital eszett
TIL.they'll just say it's a minimal thing designed to stop casual yellers
What about non-English-speaking casual yellers? Oh, right. The DiscoDevs don’t really care about i18n anyway.

Closed, reason: bug submitter is an idiot.
If there's no purpose to the bug report and nothing's broken by it, maybe stop wasting time and go shovel gravel or something.
-
I don't waste time, I just spend it on things you don't like
-
Which is the definition of wasting time. Duh!
-
No it's some kind of e-peen thing. "Oh look guyz I tested capitals with accents and Discourse devs didn't I am so gud at programmmmmmmzzzzzzzz".
But the thing is:
-
It doesn't fucking matter, and
-
Being better at Discourse developers at programming is like being better than a horse at programming. Duh.
-
And for all you know, the Discourse developers did notice this, said "this doesn't fucking matter" (see point 1,) and now you're worse than Discourse developers at programming.
Inescapable logical conclusion: you're dumber than a horse.
-
-
You mean you've never tested something simply because you can?
-
If I had, I certainly wouldn't brag about it.
-
Eh, beats being a petulant dick any day…
-
-
You mean you've never tested something simply because you can?
Depends if the result matters or not.
The whole "Body is not descriptive" or whatever the Discotoaster says is annoying. This is a scenario where it doesn't work.
The outcome of a fix here is that the stupid annoying thing that shouldn't exist becomes annoying in more scenarios.
-
Good luck trying to explain that to someone dumber than a horse.

Be honest: how many people are going to post all-caps with accented letters? AFAICT, I'm the only one who's done so.Anyway, I find bug, I report bug. If bug really bug, bug get fixed maybe; if bug not bug, no harm done, go do other things.
-

Anyone who tries should get a different toaster, something like "Stop being a dick and just post. You dick"
-
-
Be honest: how many people are going to post all-caps with accented letters?
I NEVER THOUGHT TO TRY, BUT NOW WITH YOUR COÖPERATION I
SHALL RULE THE WORLDWRITE IN CAPITALS!
-
Sweet merciful Chaos, what have I started…
-
I find bug, I report bug. If bug really bug,
bug get fixed maybeI get chastised by @codinghorror
-
People who have accented letters on their keyboards, posting on websites in their language?
German and Polish come to mind.
-
Yeah, should have said 'how many people on here, where the lingua franca is English'… ;)
-
Yeah, should have said 'how many people on here, where the lingua franca is English'… ;)
IT WOULD BE CLICHÉD, I ADMIT.
-
Probably because their check skips them because they're not "ASCII".

-
That's dumb; IIRC both Ruby and Javascript can ask what Unicode character class a particular character is in; a post is lame when they're all uppercase, spaces or punctuation.
-
lingua franca
What does pasta and French money have anything to do with English language?
-
Can't a girl use a bit of Italian every so often? Mamma mia!
-
Only while you are metaphorically talking to your hidden blade victim.
-
-
my, my
-
Looks like this won't get fixed:
-
TL;DR: "Ruby is written by a bunch of clueless American hipsters who never need Unicode for anything, so this bug won't get fixed"
-
"Ruby is written by a bunch of clueless American hipsters ..."
[Ruby] was designed and developed in the mid-1990s by Yukihiro "Matz" Matsumoto in Japan.
-
Which makes even more ridiculous it doesn't do Unicode properly
