I found this whilst shopping around for a new bike. I don't think I'll take advantage of this offer though - I need something with more than one wheel.

The actual text says "starting from £128.24", though, probably an honest miscategorization.

Common practice. Same as the "UP TO 50% off" sales where the only item 50% off is one box of paperclips.
More importantly, I don't think I'd enter a BMX race on a £129 pound bike either. That's still screams cheesy to me.Keep looking, you get what you pay for.

I ran into a lot of that last time I was looking for an apartment. The ads would all say something like: "Starting at $1150/month!" Which would be for one-room which serves as the kitchen/living room/bedroom/bathroom. Anything you would actually want to live in was at least a few hundred more, of course.

I spotted that too, but the bigger WTF is that all of the rest of their prices go something like this:
RRP - £149
Our price - £149.
Like selling it at the RRP is such a big deal - do all other stores charge more than the RRP or something?"Hey, I get it for the RPP! Wow, where's the buy-it-now-and-charge-me-a-fortune-for-delivery button?"

Buy a PC? As in pre-built? That's madness. You can assemble a C2D E6300 (and overclock it to hell on air cooling), 1GB RAM, 320GB HD, decent motherboard, ~450W PSU, a GeForce 7-series graphics card (I forget the exact one), along with all the usual other bits like case, opticals and fans for about £430 (at last count, it'll have gone down since then especially with the C2D price drop). That's £430 with decent parts, you can do one for almost nothing if you don't mind a machine as crap as the ones they pump out in the stores.

Where you live really does make a difference. I pay $900 for a 550sqft one bedroom apartment. The advantage is that it's in downtown Calgary :)

Precisely. I sold my condo in KW, Ontario, for $125K... one bedroom, 700 square feet, etc. My new condo was $149K and is one room (not including the bathroom) that measures 300 square feet. The difference? Instead of commuting 3 hours a day for work, I now live 15 minutes away on pedal bike in downtown Toronto on the waterfront.
I could have bought a two bedroom, hardwood floor 800 square foot condo for $120K in Toronto too... but no one wants to live in Scarborough.
Oh, and my real estate agent explained the "condos starting at $149,999!" advertisement on the building to me... the company puts in about 6 bachelor apartments (which is what I have) in a building with 400 apartments so they can advertise a low price like that, whereas in reality, the next step up from the bachelors are the one bedrooms starting at $170K. But at least the low price advertisement gets people looking at it in the first place (and to be honest, it's what grabbed my attention because all the downtown waterfront condos were out of my price range).
And no regrets at all for my purchase, even though it's the size of a postage stamp.

Pffft. Amateurs, the lot of ye! I'm paying $1600/mo (USD) for a one-bedroom, probably 600-some-odd square feet. With no dishwasher. Has a decent garden in back, though. If I wanted to buy an 800 square foot condo, I'm thinking it would be, oh, $300k, easily, maybe up to $500k or so without too much trouble.
--- Actually, I have vaguely formed plans to move elsewhere in about a year-and-change, but I wanted to try San Francisco proper for a little while. While I'm young, and all.

$614 for a 1-bedroom here (Fresh paint, new appliances + dishwasher, balcony, community pool/fitness center)...But it's definitely the benefit of living in central NY, and not Cali. Someday I may live there, as I seem to favor the high-tech laid-back web jobs, but the one I have will do for now.
(Plus, I like having seasons be different =)
