We don't need backup
-
New job, new project, new way of doing things...
Everything stays on the local pc: server, client, copy of db, code, local version of source control. Only when a project has been completed is code ever merged up onto the main server and co-mingled with the source control system.
When I inquired as to how/when stuff got backed up to some server (in case of an interim failure), I was told that "we don't need to back anything up to the server because hard disks don't fail". I asked about checkpoint version control saves as well as updating code from the repository in case of a long-duration project: "we know what we're doing, and don't need to do stuff like that".
It's people like this that keep folks like us employed.

I recommend testing these drives with the trusty rubber mallet. You'll soon discover whether they can fail or not.

Backup? We aint gots no backup. We don't need no backup. We don' t need no stinking backup!

Apparently then I have a Western Digital drive that's just being obstinate.

Makes perfect sense! The environment is copied on everyones local disks and all the disks can't fail at the same time.

this is standard practice. It's called Continuous Dis-Integration.
