Remote PC Shutdown - Did it work?!

  • I can't view the picture... is there something I need installed on my machine ?

  • A graphical browser?

It says: Error 0, operation completed successfully.

    __

If mixed metaphors were illegal, I'd be having an indigestion.

  • The direct link is: http://img505.imageshack.us/my.php?image=80676390bz8.jpg

It basically says "Error 0, this operation completed sucessfully"

    (BTW: It didn't!)

  • Considered Harmful

You might be a redneck if you keep a small, working image beside a large, non-working image.

  • You downloaded an adware/spyware-supported program that does the exact same thing as "shutdown -i"?

    That might be TRWTF™.

  • LOL

  • In my defense, I'm on a work computer (don't have access to cmd) and I didn't pay for anything! (My work does not involve development, just customer services!)

There's a bunch of WTFs right in that shutdown dialog!

    -  "Power Failure: Cord Unplugged" -- Hey guys, I pulled the plug on the computer so it's going to shut off about 30 seconds ago. Or perhaps, hey guys, I'm about to pull the plug......NOW!

    - "Hardware: Installation (Unplanned)" -- I think I'm going to install a modem right NOW!

    - "Loss of Network Connectivity (Unplanned)" -- what if I planned to lose connectivity? How would I shut down remotely anyways? In fact, why is that a reason for shutting down, unless you're in the mood for porn?

  • Or remotely shutting down because of loss of network connection...

  • Stupid edit timeout:

Edit1: It does say "reasons on this pc". It might not accept loss of network connectivity as a reason if you're doing a remote shutdown.

Edit2: To be fair, it does list "Hardware Installation (Unplanned)" as expected and not unexpected in the type column.

Edit3: Some of these reasons are only there for "shutdown"'s "document the reason for an unexpected shutdown of a computer" function, e.g. the "power loss (cord unplugged)" one. Sorry to spoil your fun.

I do believe it asks you for those reasons after an improper shutdown, but anyways:

    1. UPS

    2. It happens

    3. Could be loss of WAN connection by some faulty driver (i.e. fixable by a reset)

  • But see, that's no fun. It's only good if you're giving the reasons before a remote shutdown.
