About recovering (parts of) topics

Continuing the discussion from Jeff post from PM:
That would cause virtually no harm to /t/1000 and is easily reversible.
Cutting, slicing, splicing and dicing, less so.
I'll be adding it to your list however
So, can't you - in theory - restore topics using SQL and your backups? I mean, thats what they are there for (when we are not abusing them for shadowmod), right?
Filed Under: I have a list already? Damn, I must be
terribleamazing
also Filed Under: This topic title is totally not a click bait!

/me adds Kuro as an entry to a small black moleskin tome titled only THE LIST in white gothic style letters

You don't have something like a death book?
Oh, wait …

Probably have to be Alex or Sam or the like. Someone with shell access, in other words.

/me adds Kuro as an entry
Hey, this is about me HAVING a list, not me being part of one.
Filed Under: being pedantic every once in a while

This is one case where you can have it both ways!

THE LIST is many things to many people, but it is not a deathnote.
Filed under: That's only because I haven't found a shinikami to beat into submission and steal their deathnote

As i remember you can restore from /admin..... if you are admin anyway.
-
Oh. Well...

The web interface has a restore option for a recent backup or arbitrary file.
Of note...
- I've not tested it
- I don't know how tested it is.
Edit, forgot screenshot of mobile friendly interface

Cancelling timer and moved to meta.

You could have at least changed the title as well. A topic like this in meta is different from a joke-topic in One Post
So, you could just blast this forum back to the first day if you felt like it? Sounds like a fun thing to do for april fools day.
Filed Under: Yeah, yeah, the list and also I am bad and the evil ideas topic and so on

Restores mess up the site settings until you restart. Other than that, it's basically fine.
You'll delete people's posts in the process, though. Restores are basically the only way through the UI to permanently delete data.

I imagine it's the same with a lot of forum software. Doesn't make it less y though.
