Spoilering an animated GIF ruins all the Chrome things
-
This post in the Discource DMZ topic completely knackers the rest of the thread. At least the "Show Raw" button (if you can find it) can disable that behaviour.
In the interests of science, is it just that animated gif which is problematic?

hmm... maybe it's not every gif then...

-
or maybe it needs more posts to trigger it...?
-
Could be. Not sure I'm in the mood for generating 600 posts in my own thread though
:P
-
I guess I'll try the problematic image...
[spo<NOPE>iler]
Yeah, I guess it's just that particular image. Why, thougth...
-
yep. that image did it
-
Is it the height that's a problem?

[spo<NOPE>iler]
Did nobody view raw?

Hey! It works!
edit edited the spoiler into not working.
-
I did that to prevent the topic be fucked up, as it now is...
Can't even see what I'm typing now...
-
I've got no issues on mobile. I've

d it into oblivion now. For your convenience.
-
Thanks!
It seems to be just that one image though, I'm on Chrome 40 on Win8.1.
-
Although I can't repro, I'd guess one of two things about that GIF is the culprit:
- The frame rate
- The number of frames
-
You tried height but not height + animated
-
no, that one's animated, but it's not a loop like most GIFs.
-

-
we have a winner!
-
No repro unless I go to another tab and come back.
Chrome 40 (x64) Win 8.1
-
that repro was by unspoilering and scrolling up.
-
-
weird.
i have 64bit chrome if that makes a difference
-
The breakage is there, but not consistently (Chrome on OSX). Very strange. Proper bug repro is going to be challenging…
-
-
Random bits of the page got whited out while I was typing that post though.
-
What's the issue? On Debian x64, Iceweasel 31.0 I'm seeing a blurry animation and no obvious misbehavior.
-
What do you see if you go here and try to read down to the end of the thread?
-
Ben's blurry animation, then cartman's animated pandas a few posts down, then a handful of people discussing how cute they are. No unexpected discourse behaviour as far as I can tell. What kind of misrendering do you get?

herp derp me read gud.......
yeah i have no idea ho wi missed that.
-
What kind of misrendering do you get?
Ben's post is very flashy, then pretty much every screen element starts to fail render in different ways, up to the point where it's basically impossible to even read anything. Clicking 'Show Raw' on Ben's post stops the madness, assuming you can find where it's supposed to be.
-
Sounds like a Chrome issue to me.
-
Yup, doesn't happen in Firefox, at least...
-
Chrome beta, x64, was going "What's the issue? I don't see anything wron-- WTF WHERE'D THE POSTS GO"
Feels like a Chrome bug to me, possibly related to the spoiler blur filter?
Here's the HTML for the intrepid:
<a href="http://www.animatedgif.net/barslines/zboltani_e0.gif" class="lightbox" title="zboltani_e0.gif"><svg data-spoiler-id="1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" width="35" height="500"><defs><filter id="blur-1"><feGaussianBlur id="gaussian-1" stdDeviation="20"></feGaussianBlur></filter></defs><image xlink:href="http://www.animatedgif.net/barslines/zboltani_e0.gif" filter="url(#blur-1)" width="35" height="500"></image></svg><div class="meta"> <span class="filename">zboltani_e0.gif</span><span class="informations">40x570</span><span class="expand"></span> </div></a>
-
I am a little suspicious of that "spoilered lighning", but it''s nowhere near as bad as the "spoilered fisherman..."
-
Confirming some weird rendering delay stuff in Opera, so it's probably WebKit rather than just Chrome. Can't get it to break utterly like some of the screenshots though.
Version information Version: 27.0.1689.69 - Opera is up to date Update stream: Stable System: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (x86_64; X-Cinnamon) Browser identification Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/40.0.2214.111 Safari/537.36 OPR/27.0.1689.69
I guess it should be equivalent to Chrome 40.0.2214.111, at least if we can believe the UserAgent string...
-
So now scrolling up from the bottom causes random bits to seemingly not render for a few seconds.
-
I knew there were issues with spoilered images; never knew they were this bad!
-
No repro on Opera 22 - which is surprising, considering it's commonly thought of as Chrome with different
spywarebranding.
-
I get it in 27.0. But only in the linked thread, not this one. And it would seem it's only the guy on the dock image.
