Blue Thing Problems

I just stumbled upon this while looking up SAMSUNG TFT specs. Really made me wonder just how often this question pops up for it to be added to the FAQ.

Your problem is not related to the TFT-LCD panel. Please contact the store where you bought the product.

LOL. That one's good on so many levels. Obviously a little bit of Engrish, but funny nevertheless. Conjures images of a blue monster with sharp teeth eating passwords.
Even the answer doesn't make any sense. Contact the store where I bought what? The monitor? But you just said the problem wasn't related to the monitor...

Ah the joys of an FAQ where they just copy, verbaitm, all questions they get...
There are so many of them around, and it's so irritating that they can't htink to generalise, although oftne they make a hash of trying to anonymise...

Well, I suppose it shouldn't be so surprising, considering that Samsung has it's very own ODD division. That's another page that's boggled my mind before ("Optimized for IE5! 800*600!"). Surely they could've come up with a better acronym than that?

The links on that page don't work in Firefox 2...
I also love the fact that Firefox's own spellchecker doesn't recognise the word "Firefox".

My favorite thing is that you get a blank page if scripting is turned off. yet another case of idiots in action.

What I really like is that Samsung is sponsoring us while we review their lazy, dismissive approach to support and the shoddiness of their Web site. Although they rotate, I have seen at least one big Samsung banner on this thread, and I bet that at least some of the Tft flat panels being advertised in the text-based Google ads that came next were Samsung resellers.
There is a certain poetic justice in auto-selective ad placement.

Reminds me of the web interface on most D-Link ADSL routers... While the product (in my case, a DSL-504T) is usually excellent, the web interface is riddled with problems (a large portion of it is output using JavaScript, buttons are pixellated badly, some pages don't work properly, etc.)

Tell me about it. I had a pleasure to write a 'screen scrapper' (in fact of frustration I even considered OCRing the screenshots) tool to autoconfigure some of D-Link and Linksys routers.
My solution was ... oh...let say I used lots of XML, and still managed to convince myself, that it was the most sane way to parse that crap.

just visited the samsungodd.com page with Firefox 2.0.0.4
It finally loaded, after I disabled noscript. I clicked on the option for 'English'.
and guess what popped up?

I went ahead and loaded it in IE5 at 800x600 - IE5 fails to load it in the hidden frameset, and when i switch manually to the content page itself, it requires a width of about 875 pixels to be usable.

They're sending out the webpage in question as application/octet-stream rather than text/html. I have no idea how they managed to do that, but I'm betting that they only tested it on Internet Explorer (which ignores MIME types if it thinks they're wrong, occasionally with interesting results).

I think it's sending out that MIME type because the file has no extension.
