Funniest "Because I'm Batman" joke

  • Tony Stark:
    So
    in my third movie, I just wanted to get out of the suit more. I used
    little gadgets, did detective work, and decided that I am my moniker
    without the suit. That's like the ONLY thing you do. So, why people hate
    my movie and loved yours?

    Batman points at self

    Tony Stark:
    Yeah, yeah. I get it.

  • BINNED

    Eeeeh, it's all ri...

    HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME!

    Yes, I turn into a child at times. The climax with dozens of suits did it for me.

  • If no one said iron man, and it was Rony Tarks, who made metal remote control robots.
    And generally didn't occur in the marvel universe.

    It was a great movie.

    Otherwise, they just completely ruined the possibility of doing anything interesting without a "Days of Future Past" equivalent retconn.

  • I liked the Tony Stark parts better than the robot parts TBH. But mostly I liked how it wasn't a garbage trainwreck like 2.

    The first one is still the best one though.

    I… disagree!

    AC/DC soundtrack, shiny bad-ass shooty robots, and historic Formula cars racing round Monaco; what's not to like? 😄

  • 2 vs 3.

    1. Body disease, vs, Has unexplainable emotional breakdown.
    2. Robot army in development, vs, robot army on standby while house is blowed up.
    3. Uses Pepper for exposition, vs, uses random kid.
    4. War Machine, vs, USA man.....
    5. Rhodey is a natural badass, vs, Rhodey, wtf? Oh, it's the president.
    6. Pepper is realistically badass at being pepper, vs, Pepper decides that she can use Iron man suits because.... Girl Power!
    7. Build up to Avengers makes Iron man leap in technology, vs, I give up on being awesome, the most my technology is good for is a lightshow.

    How do you come to that conclusion?

  • @xaade said:

    Has unexplainable emotional breakdown.

    Umm, it was very explainable. In fact, they did explain it. He was suffering PTSD from the events in The Avengers.

    Kind of important distinction there. And FTFY.

    @xaade said:

    Well, in 3, Pepper wasn't exactly in the vicinity. Kind of hard to use someone who isn't physically available for exposition.

    There were leaps in technology, if you look at the different suits and the wide array of specializations. But he'd become obsessed as a way of hiding from his PTSD. He enacted his clean slate protocol as a way of showing Pepper that he was going to give her the time she deserved and that she was more important than the suits. It's not like he couldn't remake them.

  • He pretty much said.
    I'm not getting in another suit.

    Unless you're interpreting it as, I'm going to vacay. BRB.

  • @abarker said:

    That's nothing what PTSD looks like.

    And he doesn't suffer from it when actually fighting suit melting (fire-men?) Something that none of the enemies in Avengers could do. His suits were practically indestructible outside of god damage.

    I mean, if he had seen who was really leading the aliens, I would get the PTSD.

    If he had ANY PTSD from being held almost lifeless by terrorists in a cave where he basically lucked out over and over.

    The PTSD part just seems strapped in, and doesn't impact anything really. Other than allowing for more time for exposition.

    @abarker said:

    What prevented him from using the suit army when you have helicopters risking Pepper's life, right there. All this tech and his house doesn't have automated defense?

    Satire is satire.

    In that scene.
    Picking up the arm and using it to shoot without the opportunity for authentication, other than, maybe it snagged her DNA.... is just.... confusing.
    So anyone can just waltz up to this arm that is shown to be capable of lying just anywhere, and fire it..... is no big deal?

    It's quite clear that Pepper uncharacteristically goes on a Girl Power trip.

    I suppose she could have been affected by the cough Extremis...

    Oh yeah, about that.... :wtf:.... no really :wtf:. I mean did you just pick a name for it? Is that what we do now. I mean, what next.... calling TMNT Michelangelo's nun-chucks "mousers".

    Tony quite clearly is working on what WOULD BE extremis technology in the beginning of the movie, but no, extremis is a virus that makes people go boom.

    My armor, it was never a distraction, or a hobby.
    It was a cocoon.

    You can take away.... my toys... but one thing you can't take away...

    I am Iron man.

  • @xaade said:

    So you're a shrink now?

    AIUI, PTSD affects each person differently. You can't just say "He didn't have PTSD." Unless you are a licensed psychiatrist/psychologist. And even then, you'd probably need a few one-on-one sessions before being able to make a firm diagnosis.

    @xaade said:

    And he doesn't suffer from it when actually fighting suit melting (fire-men?) Something that none of the enemies in Avengers could do.

    Yeah, well different attacks in the Avengers. Different energies, different energy focus, lots of different things coming into play.

    As for not experiencing the effects when in a fight, some people are very good at bottling up their mental issues when they have something to focus on. Again: you aren't a shrink, are you?

    @xaade said:

    1. The attack was kind of a surprise attack (Though he really should have expected it).
    2. He did use a suit to protect Pepper.
    3. Putting more suits in the air when the house was collapsing might not have been a good idea. Remember, the flyway was beneath the house, having all those suits fly out at once probably would have accelerated the destruction of the house.
    4. Yes, automated defenses would have been a good idea. But then, he would need to get approval from the feds to do that. You really think they would let Iron Man install AA batteries at his home?

    @xaade said:

    Look, I didn't even have to answer that one.

    @xaade said:

    Actually, he wasn't. The guy who made Extremis talked to Tony in an elevator at a conference. (Happens to be the conference where he spoke while being totally plastered. Nice tie-in to the first movie). He also happens to meet a bio-tech researcher who is doing work on Extremis. He basically talked to both of them, and slept with one. Tony didn't actually do any work on Extremis.

    Edit: Added abbr tag on "AA". Thanks for the lame joke, @boomzilla

    Dude, I was installing AA batteries in my kid's toys at home just the other day. I'm sure he could swing that.

    Yeah, I think you misunderstood. He was saying that he doesn't need the armor to be a hero. He was saying that he can be a hero without them. But I guarantee that he wasn't giving up the suits.

    I'll be completely honest, I saw the AA batteries thing, and I was like "that wouldn't even power the suit for five seconds". I had to mouse over to even realize you didn't mean batteries, but that you meant gun batteries. Granted, I was skimming, but.... this round goes to @boomzilla.

    Do I really need to post a definition?

    I'm pretty sure mental problems aren't magical crowd control effects that spontaneously fire off at points in the story that add nothing to the story.

    Have it fire off during a fight, that might have been interesting.

    I'm not claiming to guarantee that he isn't experiencing real PTSD, as much as it doesn't look anything like what I would expect it to. And I'm in an audience.

    If you want to exposition the real effects of PTSD, do a documentary. Don't throw it in a story to just slow down the story. I'm trying to be entertained here.

    @abarker said:

    But then, he would need to get approval from the feds to do that.

    He fucking flies around the world pre-empting foreign affairs.

    Look what happens when real-life people do that at a non-violent level even.

    I think if he has the balls to build a robot army that is on auto-pilot. It would manage to protect his house from a few helicopters.

    @abarker said:

    The only thing that qualifies as a surprise attack, was the attack performed on the Mandarin's character, completely ruining the story for any fan of the IP.

    Nothing in Iron Man 3 made any real sense.
    It almost seemed like the entire movie was to get RDJ some more face time.

    Uhm, I'm pretty sure I said the abbr was enough to get me to see what you meant. But maybe I have too much blood in my caffeine system at the moment?

    FFS! RDJ plays the main character! You would expect to see the main character in most of the movie! This complaint doesn't even make sense!

    I was just complaining about two people going for the whole batteries thing.

  • Well, I mean, I'm sure that all of you people born back in the dark days are more familiar with AA batteries as instruments of war. But for us young whippersnappers, we haven't really even experienced the horrors and depravations of not having electronic toys that are sold with AA batteries required but sold separately.

  • Psychical actor face time.

    Seriously, I doubt ONE SINGLE PERSON went to IM3 to see a badass turned goosebumps, what's under my bed, whiny bitch, just so RDJ gets more screentime, as opposed to the suit.

    I mean, that's why we have so many in-helmet scenes, which turn his helmet interior into a $10k entertainment room.

    RDJ doesn't want to be a voice actor.

    And it turned a potentially good fight between the cackling mystical Mandarin and technology of the future, into a batman wannabe expositioning to a kid "The More You Know" for half the movie.

    Again, all of this.... is not to say it isn't a good movie.

    It just isn't a good Iron Man movie.

    Despite all its faults, IM2 was a better Iron Man movie, even if you manage to argue that it was a worse movie overall.

    Whatever. You guys are debating a fucking comic book movie in "Funny Stuff." Someone had to say something funny.

  • Originally, I had hoped I would get more Batman jokes.... but people got stuck on how good/bad Iron Man 3 was.

    That wasn't the point.

    Unless someone thinks Iron Man 3 was better than Dark Knight.
    But please, start a new thread for that!!!!

    There, leg work done.
