Has Harvard Dental School never heard of novocaine?

  • In addition to General Dentistry, Dental Hygiene etc, one of the services they provide is Facial Pain:

    Ouch!

  • I see ..

  • shrug --

it's pretty common that a list of services/treatments will give as an entry just the problem, as opposed to "Treatment for <problem>"

  • That's why I don't go to a dentist anymore. It's just too much pain in the .... mouth.

Except that all the other items in the list are treatments.  Somebody dropped the ball on the parallelism there.  Sadly, I've seen significantly bigger grammatical blunders from the so-called "staff writers" for the local newspaper (aren't there supposed to be editors to catch these things? and don't even get me started on typos), so I think we can probably cut the dentists a little slack.

  • Yep, this is like "The Center For Child Abuse".

Don't those people think before choosing a name?

  • why would they put that on there.  That's part of their implementation.  It would be like if you were trying to sell a piece of software and you advertised that it used ArrayLists.

  • And the website itself was clearly designed by idiots, it uses tables for layout, the picture at the top tiles (as in "HarvardDentalCenter Harvar") when its not supposed to, certain hunks of text are images for no good reason, no doctype, several malformed/nonexistant attributes, and no image alternates. Hooray.

Sadly, I've seen a lot worse, but I didn't expect this from Harvard.

    Or XML.

    Oh, wait....

  • This reminds me of my experience a couple years ago.  my face had exploded into the living incarnation of Dante's inferno.  It came in through my wisdom teeth and and the infection hit my bloodstream.  burning gums, canker sores all over my mouth and tongue and breath like a rotting corpse.  Not Fun!  Anyways I went to the dentist and they put me on penicillin a couple weeks later I went back cause things had gotten worse and they sent me to the emergency room.  The doctor took one look at me and proclaimed that I was a walking immunal failure. They put me on a bunch of iv antibiotics and fluids. well that brought down the infection.  However I still had to get rid of the wisdom teeth.  When they removed them the dentist proceeded to tell me that the most painful part of the procedure would be the 36 shots of Novocaine, one in each quadrant and one in the gum above each tooth.  Now I have a huge fear of needles and have actually broken noses, etc when people tried to take blood samples from me.  So you can imagine how this went.  Then he removed my wisdom teeth with a hammer and chisel, all the while cracking sadomasochistic jokes.  Long story short the shots of Novocaine were worse than the pain after the Novocaine wore off.  The infection left me with peritonitis disease and requirement to get a deep cleaning every 3 months.

I once bought a hot dog to support breast cancer. It was a good hot dog, too!

It's like the "Walk For Hunger."  I'd be willing to take action against hunger, not for it.

There was once an advertising campaign here in the UK to raise awareness about child abuse, which closed with the text "Stop Child Abuse Sponsered by Microsoft."

Whenever I deal with such causes I always say something like:

"What's this charity for? Breast cancer? Great! Are we for it or against it?"

Reminds me of a Goon Show bit:

Gryptite-Thynn: We are taking up a voluntary collection.

[sound effect of coins hitting collection-box]

Seagoon:  You didn't say what this collection was for.

      Gryptite-Thynn:  Money.
