PC attempts to remove all politically sensitive language from conversation, until the words being shared are recognizable as anything but....
I read that article, and I seriously had trouble deciphering what was being said. I had to read parts 4 or 5 times, to determine that nothing at all was really being said.
Then I suddenly realized that this is the entire point.
If certain demographics are not participating in this conversation, there must be a set of microaggressions that are precluding those people from joining our discussion. Such a thing is an -ism.
We should privately message the person committing the -ism.
Why should I. What do we need, burning crosses to prove the -ism exists?Then it hit me. No one knows how to identify the microaggression in the first place, or determine who to actually PM.
It's a solution looking for a problem.
This is good news.
This means these people are spending their entire life debating on how to find vanishingly small traces of something that doesn't have enough impact to warrant contact. And will allow them to just randomly burst out at each other vehemently.
Why is this good news?
Because it means they spend their entire lives looking for hidden skeletons, and randomly assaulting each other, just as much as they do us.
Their society will eventually deteriorate to grunts and snot. And they'll only be able to convince themselves that their "enlightenment" is anything but.
In other words.... they are marginalizing themselves. A house divided cannot stand....

Nah, we've got 2 systems. One on the cisco phone, which is on-the-fly and only goes up to 4 participants or so. And one with a central dial-in number, which goes under the name 'intercall'.

* Digium also has IAX (Inter-Asterisk Exchange) as well but it's only meant as a bridge between two Asterisk powered systems. Even the phones they sell are SIP.

AFAIK, not on Cisco, if you're using the entire Cisco stack. You need a different firmware. Default is SCCP.

The Cisco SPA series seems quite sane for *. Especially if you spend a little time setting up HTTPS provisioning, you can database backend your provisioning scripts then and have lots of win.
If I ever make a "clustered Asterisk for dummies" GUI, the HTTPS provisioning for the Cisco SPA phones will be the first thing I support. Polycoms can die in a fire.

Which ones? Some use an INI-style config, some use XML, other ones use XML but with completely different structure, some just refuse to use anything... gyaaaah!
Or is that series better? I used, off the top of my head so I might get the numbers wrong, 7905, 7911 and 7912. Same on the outside, clusterfuck of settings on the inside.

The 7xxx series phones are the Call Mangler series. Current firmware actually doesn't even support SIP at all, they flat out made them SCCP or bust.
The SPA 3xx/5xx series are the Linksys line that Cisco bought out, and expanded (adding Gbit phones in the SPA512 and SPA514 models). They default to SIP (I don't even know or care if they support SCCP) and are significantly cheaper than the CM phones.
They have a pretty simple quasi-XML style that you can deliver via TFTP or HTTP(S). For HTTPS, you have to send Cisco support a CSR for your provisioning server (the phones won't trust any other HTTPS certs), but it only takes like 24 hours to get a response on that. Once you have HTTPS up and going, the XML is stupid easy to generate via PHP or whatever scripting language you prefer, so it's simple to database backend your provisioning at that point. Or you can stick with flat files and use your cane to beat off all comers :)
Edit: INB4 someone makes a joke out of my last sentence. I could change it to beat back, but I think I'll leave the @algorythmics mode in there...
