H&R Block e-file

  • I thought it was strange that the webpage starred-out my routing transit number as I was entering it from my checkbook.  I can see doing it for passwords, but since the information being entered is already visible right in front of me to anybody watching, it just seems odd. So, not being able to see what I was entering, I took great pains to visually confirm placement of each finger on each number entered via the keypad.  Then, on to the "confirm routing transit number" box...

Good stuff.  The exact same deal for Account number/Re-enter account number.

  • The quickest way to work around it would be to enter the 're-enter' fields first, then copy/paste into the other one. It does defeat the object of typing them twice for confirmation in the first place, but what can you do?

  • Clearly a copy n paste job.

  • I don't think this is actually a bug. I think the point is to stop you reading from the screen when re-typing, and to force you to read from the paper, also to make it less likely that you'd copy-paste. Then, if you want to check the second one, you can.

  • i've seen registration forms that require retyping of both password and e-mail address, with all fields readable (including both password fields).

  • OT, but I love your avatar, Pap.

Makes sense.  If they require email activation, then typoing the address makes your registration useless.  You aren't likely to make teh same typo twice in a row, so requiring a re-type will greatly reduce the number of failed registrations.

I seem to recall that from last year, but this year, the only problem was that the font in the input boxes was almost too small to read (6pt or so).  It might have been that I was using an unsupported browser (Firefox on Linux), or the "enter information for direct deposit" and "enter information for automated withdrawl" screens might have been set up differently.

I think the WTF in that case was the fact that the password field was readable, not the fact that there was verification required.

  • I used H&R Block E-File and I thought it was wierd when I first saw it, but obviously it's designed to help prevent entering incorrect information.  Not a WTF in my opinion.  I just hope that prince in Nigeria comes through.
