Military term for really sucky but best option
-
I'm wondering if there's a military or other strategy based term for our best option, even though it's sucky.
I just got called the subject matter expert on a topic that I know just one BASIC thing about, because no one else knows anything about.
"You're our SME then"
"Fuck that"
"It means subject matter expert, not fuck that."
"I know what it means.... but I'm not taking accountability for being the first stop for something I know nothing about.... I'm more like the Only Option Available."
"OOA"?
"I like the direction, but I'd like the appropriate recognizable term."
"FUBAR"?
"Not what I was hoping for."

SNAFU: Situation Normal. All fucked up.
-
Was hoping for a title.
-
"Sir"
-
Was hoping for a title.
Senior X
where X is your current title
(offer void where prohibited or when youo are already at the senior level, in which case it sucks to be you. (and me given my recent promotion))
-
...
Ok, this plan isn't working....
I guess OOA is my OOA.
-
I would have figured there'd be a military title for
"Plan B because there's no Plan A".
PBnPA
-
"Plan B because there's no Plan A".
ah..... that would be affectionately known as a "Charlie Foxtrot"
or if there are no comissioned officers about a "cluster copulation"
... well not exactly but there's ladies about so i'm not saying what it really is.
-
uck fluckster
-
that be the one, after de-anagramming
-
So, you want me to title myself Charlie Foxtrot.....
-
not in the slightest.
but you asked for what the minitary term for "Plan B because there is no Plan A" is... so i told you.
-
You have my blessing to call yourself Captain.

I'd say they're best to worst
SNAFU
CF
FUBARfubar means there's no salvaging it.
cf means that it's really bad, and things aren't going to plan, but it doesn't imply anything about the potential of success.
snafu means it's chaotic, but it's all according to the plan.Example sentences from The Dark Knight
The Joker thinks life is inherently SNAFU.
Harvey's face became a CF, he can still be recognized, but his career was FUBARed.
-
FUBAR BUNDY is an ambulance term meaning fucked up beyond all recognition but unfortunately not dead yet
-
That sounds like something you'd read on a list of acronyms people are supposedly using, on a stodgy website like CNN.
NIFOC, for example.
-
There's a Spanish term for that: ñapa. It's the good enough fix to a problem. Like using duck tape to keep your car's bumper from falling down.
-
-
None of these are military slang titles AFAIK, but:
- EMIC - Experienced Moron In Charge
- GRIC - Goat Roper in Chief
- WAG-spert - Portmanteau of WAG (Wild Ass Guess) and expert
Edit: as others have said, SNAFU would be the closest to "least shitty of our options", though
-
HMFWIC: Head Mother Fucker What's In Charge
-
The english word for that is probably cromulent, although I think you have to stretch it a bit to fit the original request.
-
Existing phrases that don't quite fit...
- Best of a Bad Bunch
- The Least Bad Option
Making things up...
- NEPOC - Non-Expert Point Of Contact
- SMC - Subject Matter Contact
-
"The guy who got roped into it".

-
Oh no! A brand name!

Duck taping: if it quacks like a duck, cover it in gaffer tape until it stops
