SKYYYYYYPE!!! (for Android) CHROOOOOME!!!
-
So I just got off my first skype meeting with my new side-job and the skype app was about to make me scream.
There were periods where every time a stretched my finger over to press something on the screen, the screen would go black and unresponsive. Pull finger away, screen comes back. Try to press something again, screen turns off again.
I couldn't even mute the mic to scream without them hearing me 'cause the motherfucking screen kept turning off.
And then it would start working again. And then act up again for no apparent reason.
And then the team manager called me back right after the meeting for a one-on-one followup and I couldn't hit the accept call button 'cause of the same bullshit.
I also just noticed that chrome in my brand new virtual machine has all my saved passwords. So chrome now uploads all my passwords to Google? Was that something I missed in the EULA? (because, of course, I didn't read it, but I mean, come on).
And when I open a chrome window (and there were no others open), it automatically opens two pages: http://previouscompany.communications.net and http://itservice.previouscompany.com. Which the machine I used at my previous job was configured to automatically open when starting the browser. So chrome decided they should appear when I open a browser window on any machine? Because I checked my personal email on that machine like once? How does that even work?! What the fuck is this shit!?>!
So I've tried to keep all my shit separate the past couple of years - multiple emails for personal, freelancing, whatever. But even that is painful. Which email do i use for my github profile, for instance? I use that profile for personal and freelancing work. I don't want to make two, cause then my e-peen* won't appear all on the same page. So anything that I do on github related to freelancing, which I should hear about on my freelancing email, gets sent to my personal email.
*My github profile has helped me get work more than once, so I think this is a valid concern.
There's no way to win.
Can't have a single identity - things get all mixed up.
Can't have multiple identities - everything keeps trying to join you back together half-assedly.
Technology has gone from slow and obtuse to lightning fast and incrediblyobnoxiousauto-helpful.dictated but not read

EDIT: HanzoI have different settings at work which stops home stuff syncing to work and vice versa. Same Google account.
-
I left the background in so you could see how I got there :)
I have my work machine set up to only sync apps, passwords, settings, and themes, while my two home PCs sync everything.
Edit: Hanzo'd!

Meh - couldn't be bothered to hide my email address and/or name.

This, more or less.

Oh shit, brb XD
<sub<<whisper>** Your post revision is public. lets hope no one notice</whisper>
-
Well, thanks for that, but my grievance is that I don't remember checking "sync passwords". It started happening automatically without asking or even notifying.
And if my password has been uploaded, how do i get it down?
-
Click "Show advanced settings"
Then "Manage passwords"
-
And if my password has been uploaded, how do i get it down?

The default is sync all. Has been as long as that's been there. You have to opt out.
-
Your post revision is public
yeah, so is my username, which you could guess my email from XD
-
Yeah, there it is.
You have to opt out.
Was there a notification that this would start happening? I just had to notice it myself and then look for a way to stop it?
This hasn't happened to me, but imagine someone was looking at NSFW websites on their personal computer while their email was open (logged into chrome) and then goes to work and checks their email and they stay logged into chrome. When they open a new tab, the list of commonly-visited sites would appear (including NSFW ones). On their work computer, possibly in front of other people. With no warning.
-

You've reached the limit of my knowledge on the subject, sorry
-
It's been a while, but from memory, Chrome makes it pretty obvious it does this and makes it trivial to change the settings.
It's not a new thing either.

it is not like you never borrowed your coworker iPad, and when you open the browser he/she forgot it on a xvideos. btw I stopped borrowing iPads at work. after the 2nd time different coworks.
just glad I checked it before the meeting

To point out the obvious, you should try out a voice/video app before using it "in production" (or for an important meeting.)
Imagine the millions of man-hours wasted by idiots who don't do this every year, wait until they have 47 people on the line before figuring out how to share a screen.

Phones have proximity sensors. If you're making a call, the screen turns off when the screen is covered with something to prevent you from hanging up with your ear. Looks like it was acting a bit overzealous.

I used it countless times before.
But yes, good advice.

I don't understand. Are you being intentionally obtuse? You're supposed to be commiserating with my bitching! That's what the site is for, isn't it?!
But instead people are like: aw, well, this is perfectly acceptable behavior. What?! Since when is anything just OK like that?!
-
aw, well, this is perfectly acceptable behavior
I didn't say it was acceptable, just that from memory (because it's been ages since I last dealt with it) Chrome makes it pretty obvious it does it and lets you trivially turn it off.
-
I don't remember any mention of it
-
Was there a notification that this would start happening?
Yes, I remember that one ... but you probably just clicked to dispatch of it.
-
This is why I use Chrome for personal stuff and Firefox for work stuff.
Today I got the computer from a gone employee and all her Chrome stuff was still on sync. Format that shit when you leave a company people.
-
It sounded like you were surprised by the screen blacking out.

And it never happened before. So I had tried it out ahead of time and it didn't help.
Goddamn, I feel like... you... talking to this group.
