@sam and @codinghorror, I realize that what I ask for is opening the door to security concerns, but it would be really nice if PM's showed in the default view the same as other topics do. If you treat "The Lounge" and PM's as just other topics (but with security restrictions), it would be nice if we could see them in the home screen of Discourse.
But, don't do so unless you triple-check that there will be no security holes. Private messages should remain private. If you cannot guarantee that 99.99999999%, then don't bother.
Just a thought.
P.S.: Thank you to whomever fixed the Tab+Enter bug in the layout. That was bugging the shit out of me, and I owe an apology to @sam for my drunken venting the other night. I do apologize, and thank you for fixing it. Much appreciated.

Do you have muted PMs? I can't figure out how this woud be useful to you. PMs always give you a notification and they even have a different colo(u)r.
Having them in the Category view would be (while not terribly so) kind of confusing. PMs are not in a category per se. They are just hidden. They also sometimes break if you edit the title (was that fixed)?Having PMs in the Category view would mean people would need to check everytime they take a screenshot.
So, yeah.... what is the reason you would want that feature?

in that you can't edit the titles anymore? yes.
-
I think I privately disproved your point!
Filed Under: Now that everything is fixed, we should totally update again
-
Will I will admit it is fixed now.
It was broken for the longest time really.... I swear I am not just making it up.

Sometimes I check the notifications and then think, "I will come back to this later" and then don't because my memory is roughly as long as my...well nevermind.

They are their own category. Individual to each user.

Good call, but I long for the day that we do not have to take screenshots to illustrate the many ways that Discourse shits itself. Call me an optimist, but I see it in the distant future. Like, V100. By Discomath, V100 = V1.0.

Yeah, I really cannot argue with this point...you win.

call me a pedantic ...well nevermindweed but notifications for pms you didn't click on don't disappear. Even after clicking on the Speechbubble. To make them disappear you gotta set the readflag of the pm to true (or mute the pm, obviously). So I don't know what you are complaining about besides maybe your memory ;P
They are their own category. Individual to each user.
Hm, yeah, that would probably sound reasonable but I still don't really see the value. Maybe I just don't get enough PMs to appreciate the request.Like, V100. By Discomath, V100 = V1.0.
That could still be ~10 years from now, when the Jeffs vision comes to frution ;PYeah, I really cannot argue with this point...you win.
Yay, I finally won on the internet. Now I can retire without any regret!Filed Under: Besides maybe regretting to not regret retiring!

You nailed it the first time. You can stop there. ;)

I feel like you underestimate the DiscoRoadmap.
Hm, yeah, that would probably sound reasonable but I still don't really see the value.
Fair enough.
Maybe I just don't get enough PMs to appreciate the request.
I get quite a few, despite (or perhaps because of?), me being an asshole.
Yay, I finally won on the internet. Now I can retire without any regret!
I won't argue with good points. I rescind the request, because the implementing devs are unlikely to do so without causing security vulnerabilities. ;)

when the Jeffs vision comes to frution
Shouldn't that be The Jeff Also, possessive, not plural; one is quite enough, TYVM.

my memory is roughly as long as my...well nevermind.
Can't grow a decent beard, huh?

Private messages should remain private.
Don't admins (and/or mods, and/or users with an id divisible by 3 or 5) have free access to everyone's PMs anyway?
-
Moderators obey access controls, but yes admins can view every topic ID.
You'll get a lot of Welcome PMs if you try, though.

so how do flags in PMs work? i could have sworn @boomzilla has wikified some posts for me in PMs

so how do flags in PMs work? i could have sworn @boomzilla has wikified some posts for me in PMs
No. I can't see PMs unless they're to/from me (or #moderators or whatever that special way is). @PJH does all the other PM wikification that you kids get up to.

once again my memory proves to be faulty.
what else is new?
:-D

-
It's what you do when you have a PM that needs to be editable forevermore.
-
so how do flags in PMs work? i could have sworn @boomzilla has wikified some posts for me in PMs
I'm guessing the flag adds #moderators to the PM's ,inviting them to the party.
Don't ask.
-
@tarunik @Yamikuronue and i are doing a role playing game by PM and we need character sheets to remain editable as the game progresses. ;-)

So Discourse is a forum, bug tracker AND rpg now? It's like the swiss army knife of programs!
-
rpg now?
well not so much that as a place to play RPGs... if you want to...
Why do you think i made it so @sockbot can roll dice? :-D
-
@accalia has summoned me, and so I appear.

hi sockbot....
5d20rpb5 please

Why isn't it written in Perl, then?

That's a way better 5d20 roll than that 5d20rpb5 roll earlier.
