Working Picture-of-a-webcounter CGI

Here is a webcounter from the print-it-out-put-it-on-a-table-and-take-a-picture school of web design.
(I actually thought this was pretty cool. Found it on MAKE:blog.)Jeff

That is funny, though it does not seem to be working right now. I saw the counter minutes ago, but right now:
-
He must have oiled it again - after all it's clicking over at quite a rate right now (yes it's back online)
A truly ingenious solution to a problem that never existed - although at least his hit counter won't get lost when the PC crashes ;)

The Real WTF is that he used Java (not Javascript, mind you) for the buttons.

That's just wrong. ☢

That site totally needs to get Slashdotted! We've seen plenty of sites go down due to Slashdotting, but they might be able to start a fire with this one!
I'm glad to see that somebody finally automated the wooden table, though!

Anybody else having issues with this and firefox? I'm using 2.0.0.2 under Vista and the second I click that link it exits without a word. Funny how often that seems to happen...
-
2.0.0.2 under XP, and it works fine.
-
I just opened the webcam to see a label under the counter, reading "Damn you samurai 1200"
Wonder what that means.

It did that to me a minute ago when I clicked on one of the links once I was on the page.

Judging from the speed it seems to run on just now, he should better think about adding a cooling system...
-
Seems that he's given up...
terom@zapotekII:~$ host salem.dyndns.org
salem.dyndns.org has address 127.0.0.1
-
How do you do that? Make a URL point to 127.0.0.1, is that not part of the whole hidden IP addresses (besides being localhost too?).

You do it the same way you make a URL point anywhere else: you change the DNS record.

It may have a special meaning but it still is an IP adress and can used everywhere were "normal" adresses can be used.

This is perdy cool. It was workin yesterday, getting like 8+ hits everytime it refreshed. Now it doesnt seem to work. Maybe it couldnt handle all the requests>
-
And pinging it gives me "destination host unreachable". Maybe samurai 1200 broke it?
