Modern way to backup emails
-
Next week: backup your USB drive by photocopying it.

Holy hell... That's properly funny... I recently had to paperfy a lot (30+) of hotmail.com mails, and I had to print each one, WHY U NO BULK?

Is this the original inspiration behind SSDS?

I'm surprised it's not telling users to print the emails and scan them back in.

TRWTF is using Yahoo! mail. Ratio of spam:legitimate > 10:1.

No wonder I use Yahoo mail as my spam account. Ever since the "We don't support your OS" message I left all hope.

I'm surprised it's not telling users to print the emails, place them on a wooden table and take photos of them.

I think they're just buttuming their users will already be familiar with photocopiers, scissors and glue.
Ever since the "We don't support your OS" message I left all hope.
So what you're saying is that Jeff worked there?

Silly you, Swampie would never mention such a vile thing as a "word processor", much less "Microsoft Word" or "Wordpad". As you know, the only two pieces of software you need are Notepad and SSDS.
Anyway, TRWTF is that they assume people are running Windows in this new year of Desktop Linux, and don't mention any FLOSS word processing alternatives, amirite?

In Outlook, printing from the main window by default prints all messages in the mailbox in Memo mode, in bulk. In Thunderbird, selecting several messages before printing will print all of them.

that would be handy for gmail (the webapp) to do.
i wonder if it does that and i've never tried to find out....
I wonder if i'll remember to try the next time i have a series of related emails i want to print out for record keeping purposes (like purchasing a computer or something)

If they're all in the same thread the printer icon at the top of the page will print them all - as opposed to the print option on the dropdown at the top of each email for printing individually. There's no way to selectively print only certain mails from a thread.
There's no (apparent) option to print anything from the mail list page.

When I did this and printed to a pdf printer, I seem to remember it prompted once for the printer, and then the printer (PrimoPDF) prompted for a filename to print to for each email. Definitely not what I expected...

It does submit each e-mail as a separate print job, reusing the printer settings from job to job, as a convenience for both the developer (reuse the exact same code) and the user/administrator (cancel individual e-mails if need be, better quota/accounting, ...). It's unfortunate that you were printing to files and getting prompted for each job, but only print-to-file has that behavior, and the current system works the best for the most people.

Yahoo makes me sad. They have an infrastructure, money, a brand name and some talented programmers in there, all the resources to actually compete with Google and Microsoft in some areas. Yet their incompetence seems to ruin everything they touch. They apparently are fine with being just a "news" page with clickbait titles and photos of celebrities in short dresses.
