Non-ASCII character Allowed into title, then later stripped.

Continuing the discussion from Discopdia:
The æ keeps disappearing from the title. New Discobug?
The topic Discopædia topic used to have an ashe (æ) character in the title, but it has mysteriously disappeared. Looking at the history, there is no evidence of a user removing the character. Attempts to replace the character in the title last a few seconds, but then the character is removed from the title again. Not only that, but the edit history is altered as well. Edits which added the ash back in show either:
- No changes to the OP (as with @RaceProUK's edit from 89 to 90)
- Nothing in the History panel. (as with @boomzilla's edit from 87 to 88)
What say you, @sam? You seem to be the one messing with unicode and ASCII.
-
Playing around with this here:

Testing (thanks to @ChaosTheEternal for the debugging help!) indicates that the unicode character is not stripped until the next notification from that topic. Bascially, that means the unicode character stays in the topic until the net post. See http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/can-you-make-a-title-edit-stick/6859.

You wanna enter this at meta? I don't see anything obvious over there.
-
I wonder if this is from hyper sanitization of encodings that @sam has been working towards?

if that ends up restricting us to nothing but 7-bit ASCII i'm leaving. i'll take death before i let you take my ‽ away.
-
But it's seemingly sanitised when a notification is triggered! That's a strange point to sanitise it.
-
Yeah, but who knows? It's probably unrelated, but it sounds like it could be related. I know he's been pulling his hair out trying to figure out why it's happening. Wasn't it deemed to be the error logged for WSOD?
We've been seeing those. Maybe, like how squeezing one off kills a kitten, our unicode edits are white screening a TDWTF user. Won't someone think of the WSODs‽
-
It's definitely new. I'm glad we've avoided these bugs by skipping updates.

Skipping updates is to stop new bugs coming in (hah!) not to stop us unearthing old bugs that were undiscovered....

WSOD
Sam says:
I linked him back here to ask if they're maybe related.

Oh, I know that. Just having a dig at CDCK.
EDIT: Well Jeff, mostly.
-
Sam says he restarted (but didn't update) us today.
-
Yeah, just restarted now, is the weird issue gone, not seeing it in logs.
-
Unicode appears to persist on try:

-
Yeah - seems fixed.
-
That was supposed to be to @sam's post.
-
Agreed. My OnePost is behaving now (assuming that's not due to it being closed).

Seems fixed in Discopædia.
