403 Thou shall not pr0n

  • I almost literally rolled on the floor when I saw that popup mock-up on this page , on watchtower's website.

     I guess religious stuff is quite too hot for the main site, but nevertheless, I don't want to hurt anyone's feeling, you can believe in god and still find it hilarious as h... oh, never mind.

    Best. Post. Ever!

  • I hate it when a website puts a fake window with non-working buttons. I went to the site and kept clicking the X, but it just wouldn't work!

    If I'm ever tasked to write a content blocker, I am so filling it with bible verses!

    There's also a fake scroll bar at the top.  What's the point of that, other than needlessly frustrating people?

    Haha wow, I totally missed that. That's even worse!

  • Perhaps the moral of this story is to change the color scheme of Windows XP to not use the ugly blue taskbar, and instead use silver or green.

    // TODO: Change my taskbar to silver or turn off the pretty crap.

  • Needless to say, this just looks even sillier on a mac. I wonder if some survey company tried to match OS users with religious beliefs. Do most devotees use XP ?

    Or not all of them ?

    Some modified version of the latter, probably :D

  • "This is what God wills, . . . that each one of you should know how to get possession of his own vessel in sanctification and honor"

    (Insert Beavis and Butthead response here) haha.

    "Hey, what are you up to in there?"
    "Just sanctifying my vessel! Go away!"

  • While XP zealots hold dumb websites, I've found those christian ubuntu worshipers are actually funny guys. Just have a look on their merchandising, I want one of those ASCII-art Jesus and crosses t-shirt ! Or the google "catholic" mock-up.

  • //addendum :

     the real WTF is that I thought the "visitor locations" was one of the t-shirt logos, and said to myself : "doh, THAT's geekish beyond all purpose". Eh, conclusion is : I am the real geek.

    (emphasis mine) I'm of the opinion that that is the entire point. To annoy people. Fortunately Javascript can be turned off in just about every major browser (and re-enabled per-site), which apart from adblock or similar is probably the only way to kill those things (since it's probably inframe JS+CSS+IMG magic, it's not technically a "popup").

    (Alternate solution to sites like this: grap DNS name from addr bar, SIGKILL (yes, as in kill -9) the browser, then point the host to 127.0.0.1. For extra fun, have your own httpd that then catches the hostname and serves you /dev/null . Then shred -u -n 5000 -z your browser's history and cache. Then go get some munchies as your disk will be busy for a while. Yes, that's obviously overkill for one little "popup", but I'm sure someone could get pissed enough to do it.)

  • About false windows/scrollbar, chalk one up for cargo cultism.

    It isn't even that, its one step away from just being an html table:

    <div class="box1">

    <img src="/images/20041208a/buttons.gif" alt="Computer buttons" width="350" height="24">

     ....

     </div>

    True, but I've seen JS ones (presumably to make the X button download 35682TB of spyware "close" the "window" - only for it to probably return at the most annoying moment possible).

    I would guess that most christians use Windows, because - like christianity - it is an easy, popular choice that only has major problems if you're smart.

    So the average christian never has problems with it...

    I would think that they would use Linux, given that it allows them to have an air of superiority over all of the heathens.

    I kid...sort of.

    A true believer would use OpenBSD, which is superior to even the most pious Linux distribution.

  • You're all wrong! A true Christian would use Ubuntu Chrisian Edition!

     The Real WTF of course is the name of the website: whatwouldjesusdownload.com. Here's a quick answer for you: nothing! I don't think they had the IP protocol back then. They might have had IP datagrams on avian carriers, though.

    It's probably just Ubuntu but without the daemons.
