Gfycat onebox
-
Can we add gfycat to the onebox whitelist? It's a site that takes gifs and turns them into no-audio html5 videos which are generally quite a bit smaller, so it's basically oneboxing a gif but it saves bandwidth.
Example: http://gfycat.com/MeaslyNextKiskadee
-
that baby deserved that.
there's a good way to learn about treating animals nice.
-
Is that what Twitter uses?
-
I disagree with Ben. That baby maybe had it coming, but it was the parents' fault for leaving it with cat unattended.
-
I never said anything about that.
-
Ok Ben, I'll give you that, the parents where right there, recording. But they should have still let the baby get to know the cat first, under their supervision, and THEN try to make a funny video. That's all I'm saying.
-
Ok, one of us is whooshing. I think it's me.
-
pretty sure @cartman82 has confused you and me.
it happens on occasion.
-
Hey I'm not the one who started the cats vs babies thread.
-
no, but i was the one that said the kid earned that pounce.
-
that baby deserved that.
If you look closely at the baby's face at the very beginning, that's an upset face. It's possible the cat did something to him and his slap was reaction/"punishment"/revenge. I've seen that happen.
-
So whaddaya say, @PJH? Can we have gfycat.com oneboxing?
-
Doesn't look like gfycat supports oembed or opengraph, so I don't think whitelisting it would do anything -- you'll need to write a custom engine.
-
What's this, then?

-
What's this, then?
Eggs being broken (shot?) in slow motion.
-
Looks like a bug. Someone should report it.

You're right. I didn't even notice. http://gfycat.com/cajax/oembed/MeaslyNextKiskadee returns:
"
}
Also, if I type this into Discourse:
http://gfycat.com/cajax/oembed/MeaslyNextKiskadee
I get this in the DOM:
 http://gfycat.com/cajax/oembed/ MeaslyNextKiskadee

Problem is URL with
/oembed/
always returnsCooperativeScentedAnkolewatusi
, btw.
-
Done.
http://gfycat.com/MeaslyNextKiskadee
Not sure why it's not moving though (or, at least, it's not here in the preview.)

You have an extra /t in your URL.
Also, why do I see a video of eggs getting shot in your post, and a JPEG of a table in the preview window of this post?

Also, why do I see a video of eggs getting shot in your post, and a JPEG of a table in the preview window of this post? The url you get from quoting @PJH matches the url from the OP, which took me to some rotating table video. The url actually showing in the post is totally different. Dicsourse onebox cooking cache issues?

Possibly because of the problem I reported above?
-
Bumping this old thread.
I'm fairly sure the oembed bug's been fixed now, so maybe we could add it to the whitelist again? It seems to have been removed. CC @PJH @boomzillahttp://www.gfycat.com/FearlessWhiteFrenchbulldog

Remind me again in a couple of days if I've not looked into it; round inlaws at the moment and only using mobile.
-
didn't we remove the oneboxing because it was causing @boomzilla's browser to crap its pants?
It wasn't very friendly to my desktop browser, and mobile, fuggedaboutit!
-
Pretty much. Maybe they've made it better. It was especially the egg shooting one (IIRC) that killed me.
-
Pff, some moderator we have, putting petty things like family or christmas above the needs of the forum.
-
AFAIK it's merely a < video> element so I don't see how it can be bad on any browser...
-
Not all browsers handle HTML5 video nicely.
and not all mobiles have enough memory to handle HTML5 video gracefully

Hey - it's not my fault I had to go - I'd have rather spent the day in the pub.... :)
